Bye Bye Sandy...Hello Bulldoozer

Well, folks, reading all the different post from around the globe, it seems as if Sandy is not the hot curvy gal we were all waiting for, huh? I was about to build me a new computer (even though I just built one 2 months ago with my Intel i7 950)and invite Sandy over; but I think I'll stay where I am. I am currently doing 4.30Ghz with my i7 950 (sometimes up to 4.85Ghz..........mmm, for 2 minutes then it crashed; but hey I got there :Tounge: )Bulldozer: So, yet to see what happens with the Bulldozer. I am waiting and see what happens . As long as it runs over FSX and not me, I should be fine...Dig out all you want, crush it and make it screem ! Thne we'll all run towards AMD (well, not everyone....maybe 9 out of 10)Well, yet to wait and see more reviews and results on Sandy, and see what AMD brings out !!!John

Wait for the 2011 socket. That will be better than any AMD chip/sandy bridge

Care to share your settings? I want 4ghz but nothing seems stable, I've gone through all the guides. I have a 800 watt power supply and a gtx 580. i7 950 and gigabyte mobo w latest bios updates. 6gb ram. 64bit os. Just need a steady 4ghz and my fsx will run perfect with max sliders

Socket 2011 *is* Sandy Bridge! (And so is Socket 1155...)Cheers,- jahman.

Sorry, the 2011 will be better than any AMD/1155 SB

It is very unlikely that Bulldozer will perform better than SB. Would be great if it added some competition, but for what I keep reading it seems that it's not going to happen

That's an interesting conclusion, seeing as how no one has tested SB with FSX yet... We are here to talk about hardware performance in FSX, right?
Maybe we'll see some drastic changes with AMD in the future. CEO Dirk Meyer gets sacked: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4123/what-a-day-amds-ceo-dirk-meyer-resigns
interesting new's Ulf B I wonder how this will effect amd's direction in the upcoming year's

Well, I guess we are waiting on someone with lots of knowledge to do the testing.

I have a 2500K on its way to replace my 4.25GHz E8400. Will be retaining all my old kit (gfx, SSD, same amount of RAM) so hopefully will provide some kind of bench for people to go by. If the OP is waiting for the high end AMD chips or even Ivy from Intel, he'll be waiting a while. The 2011 socket chips will be a big step up hopefully, but whether they'll have the same attractive price points the S1155 chips have is debateable. I'll be sure to post a wee thread once I have my SB gear up and running, I'm sure there are a few E8400 guys floating about waiting for some info lol.

I have an E8500 @ 3.9 thinking of getting a 2500k so I will be checking your findings for sure.
