PMDG planes as static aircraft?

Featured Replies

It is possible to use a PMDG plane as a static aircraft at any airport parking spot? What program would be required to do this? Thanks!

It depends, what ai traffic do you use?

Because if you have Ultimate Traffic 2 I know that you can (to an extent)

I do not use any addon traffic manager... (FSX and REX, thats pretty much it aside from a few airports here and there)

Hmm as far as I know I don't think FSX can do that. I think you need a traffic addon (one that has a traffic manager). Maybe somebody here knows how to do though. Regards

You could use it as AI and write some flight plans for it to fly somewhere close in the middle of the night and return, thus you would see it parked at the ramp/gate of the airport in which you want to see it during the day or when ever it wasn't scheduled to fly. However, I wouldn't recommend using complex payware a/c for AI since the FPS hit will probably be more than what you want. Also they may not behave correctly when flying since they weren't designed for that use in the first place.I would recomment searching the library and look for a utility a fellow made recently that will let you convert AI aircraft into models that you can place using an object placer program or using the object placer in the FSX SDX. However, that program will only convert FS9 models to be placed as static aircraft and wont work for FSX AI models.Personally what I would do is search WOAI for the airline/model you want, install it, then use the model converter program I mentioned to make the AI a/c you want into a placeable model and go that route, just make sure to remove the traffic bgl it creates, unless of course you want to see it as traffic in the sim. IF you leave the bgl it creates it would probably be worth while using AIFPC to convert the traffic bgl into FSX format to reduce the risk of it interfering with any other AI you may have installed.Sean Campbell

This excellent new program can convert "most" aircraft models for use as static displays:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=samm1000.zip&CatID=root&Go=SearchI have not tried it with any PMDG products though but it works on everything else I have experimented with so far.

Yes, that's the program I was trying to think of the name of.I actually downloaded it when it came out, but have not experimented with it much yet. However I did try and make one of the default FSX planes a static model and it didn't work. I am assuming it will work fine with FS9 models but not so well with native FSX models. It's worth a shot though.Sean Campbell
