January 28, 201115 yr That'll be just TOO much excitement :(Yep, TOO much!Look at this awesome JAN 2011 Sample from MS Flight:http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/Totally off topic, sorry...
January 28, 201115 yr Thanks Ron, I saw that as well. But here's Nick's explanation : Originally posted by rabidGreat pics, but just out of curiosity why do you disable UTX roads? Is it possible to use regular FSX default roads with UTX? I am showcasing our work in texture and autogen layout for a GEX patch, not UTX even though we do try and provide seamless upgrades to UTX for GEX users, the roads have not changed. I actually prefer to fly with all roads disabled since they unnaturally cut though and across textures and remove autogen. Unless I know a area from the air seeing roads cut across textures like that tends to lower the quality of the illusion, at least for me. There are times when I turn them on for VFR and especially night flying. If I do turn them on I use the UTX roads, not default. I agree with Nick, using both "tends to lower the quality of the illusion". My priority is "real" roads so, and this is a matter of personal preference, the amount of roads drawn in GEX textures + UTX or default roads just kills the illusion for me.Once again, GEX is a huge improvement over default FSX but it would have pleased me more with less roads and some textures with bigger fields. But you can't always please everyone, can you ? :( KInd regards Jean-Paul I7 8700K / Fractal Design Celsius S24 watercooling / ASRock Z370 Extreme4 motherboard / Corsair 32GB 3200mhz DDR4 / INNO3D iChiLL GeForce GTX 1080 Ti X3 / Samsung SSD 960 EVO M.2 PCIe NVMe 500GB / Seasonic-SSR-850FX power supply / Fractal Design Define R5 Black case / AOC Q3279VWF 32″ 2560x1440 monitor / Benq GL2450 24″ 1920x1080 monitor / Track-IR 4

We are of course bound to the limitations of the sim, but graphically a lot can be achieved, illusion wise... :(

January 30, 201115 yr Since GEX EU V2 I've been taking Nick's advice and flying with UTX roads disabled, which gives me better performance and a MUCH better visual experience. (I mainly fly WW2 aircraft out of WW2 bases, and I think that GEX alone gives a better impression of what UK/Europe was like before the coming of the motorways/autobahns etc.) I leave the rivers and water features and railways in place, so that a certain amount of VFR flying is still possible. To be honest, I hadn't really thought about the roads in GEX. But it's true that the GEX roads quite frequently just stop (edge of tile I suppose) and I guess it would be nice if that could be improved. The alternative - for products like GEX to have no roads, leaving that up to UTX (or default FSX) to provide, sounds attractive. But even that is imperfect, since the roads by necessity would cut across the textures/autogen inappropriately in some places. As Jean-Paul has stated above - impossible to please everyone !
