January 30, 201115 yr Can someone help on this – have always had this problem with the MD11. Was doing a Montreal Toronto flight on Vatsim this afternoon – had set up my approach from Montreal for a Simcoe2 star, runway 15L. As I was approaching my descent Toronto center called for a Simcoe2 runway 5 approach. Updated the approach in the FMS to runway 5 – that is when I noticed on my flight plan page that it had both approaches inputed in the fms! I had to manually delete a bunch of intersections – this while taking descent commands from ATC. I've run into this before with this aircraft – can someone explain fms procedure for changing runways? I plan on doing a return to Montreal – hope to have it sorted by then :)Thanks!Mike Mike Normandeau Montreal, Canada
January 30, 201115 yr You need to go to the last fix in your route, then select your rway from the star page. If the destination airport is the same as the previous star selection, the FMS will delete the old info and replace it with the new.I think that's correct anyhow but i'm new to the MD11 myself. I have a the same thing happen to me though and it does work. Richard Edwards-Longhurst Guildford United Kingdom BAW1094
January 31, 201115 yr Like the initial STAR selection, you have to enter the LAT REV page from the lasto fix of your route. The STAR and RWY selection should be made always on the last route waypoint to overwrite previous selected procedures and/or runways...If you change things from a waypoint coming after the last fix of the route, you will experience the double-procedures problem, and you will have to delete manually all the useless fixes...If you want, take a look into the FMS manual, it's full of tricks and tips for advanced navigation or advanced route planning...cheers, Paolo Fumagalli "Everyday is a new flight, with new system to learn, new failures to prevent and new database to update..."

January 31, 201115 yr It is not the 'LAST' fix on your route, it is the fix from where you want to start your approach. Say your route went ARPT1 ALPHA BRAVO CHRLY DELTA ARPT2. You enter the STAR for ARPT2 from waypoint DELTA. This adds new waypoints STAR1 STAR2 and STAR3 between Delta and ARPT2. Now when you get close ATC wants you to switch to another STAR and the transition is from CHRLY. You do not modify STAR3, you modify CHRLY. Paul Smith.
