February 2, 201115 yr I need help with the catagory of a motherboard first. Nothing specfic, just what I should be looking for in features to run 4 monitors.Motherboard advice:I currently have a AGP card and 1 PCI card running 4 monitors. I think I need an SLI to run two cards but was just looking at Newegg and see other MB's with 2 PCIe (x16) slots. This stumps me just a bit as it doesnt mention SLI so could someone please suggest a catagory of MB's that I should start looking with? I prefer to start with a MB choice then build the rest around that. AMD is my preference. Nvidia is also my choice for cards. I prefer no on board video. Sound, I dont care.To be clear, I dont want to setup an SLI system. I want to run 2 vid cards so I can have 4 different "views". If I can accomplish that without an SLI, fine.Mainly I need MB type advice from you good folks to get started. Then see what my wallet can stand for the rest. Thanks,Gary
February 3, 201115 yr You should decide on a cpu first, then choosing mobo gets somewhat easier. I can't comment on any Sandy Bridge compatible boards since they are new (and flawed, and suspended from the market). So, are you hooked on that new cpu you should wait a bit for the boards to come out again. I run four monitors off a Gigabyte UD-5 rev. 2, using i7 950 cpu overclocked and gtx460 2gb overclocked.Bjorn "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"

Unless you are splitting the same display into identical views. Doubt you are doing that.Sry, but configuration for a simpit with multiple monitors takes precedence over CPU choice IMO. Yes, I realize that Fs is CPU dependent, but I dont have any big plans for FSx. I may not have any need to install it should i accomplish getting FS9 to run at my satisfaction. I am nearly 100% sure I dont need a $1000.00 CPU to run Fs9 the way I want to run it. I'm not going to select speed over 4 monitors. In fact if I didnt run 4 monitors, my old single would run FS9 pretty good. It did before I added the other 3 displays. The entire system is built around the motherboard and its capabilities. Just my opinion.I need a motherboard capable of running 4 displays on a fast interface. Not a 2 on a PCIe and 2 on a PCI card. Thats what I have now (with exception of AGP instead of PCIe) and I'm not going to buy another motherboard to use a PCI display output. Thanks anyway.
February 3, 201115 yr Commercial Member Hi Gary,Seems like we both updated our systems from the "AGP Age". My last build was single core Intel P4 3.4 so I did a lot of research to get caught up. I went the AMD route too and haven't looked back. With my 1090T 6-core I have been running it at 4GHz at a cool 34c under a full flightsim load on air. May OC to 4.5 but it is running FS so good I may not need to. I am also using an Nvidia Gforce580. For the MB I went with the Asus Crosshair Formula IV. Why? Well, I am no techie so I read reviews, thought it had lot's of advance stuff on it so I could make sure I would not discover I needed something that I did not have if I bought a cheaper board. Board has been superb. Running, SATA6, USB3, SSD's, 8gig DDR3 RAM at 1600 - all the latest goodies without a hickup. I am looking at Gigabyte or MSI for a second board for a little backup system I am gonna put together to run other 3rd party things. When you see a board that sounds interesting, a good thing is to read a lot of reviews like on Newegg or some of the OC forums.I'd say if you are gonna OC go with either the AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Black Edition ($199.00). If you do not plan to OC (or let it do it's own OC automatically), I'd go with the AMD Phenom II Quad Core 970 Black Edition which runs at a default 3.5GHz. ($179.00). Either will give you great perfomance for the dollar. For multiple monitors I will probably go three 25"-28". I want to use Eyefinity so I first had a Radeon 6970 in there so I can run up to six screens but the Nvidia looks better with FS right now. So I will probably hold off until MS Flight comes outand purchase either a 2nd 6970 or 580.just my 2,Clutch Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) February 12, 201115 yr Author I´m using TripleHead2Go on a single GTX460, check out sig.Byes, I am considering that route. I understand. But at the moment I am using 4 monitors in my simpit. I went ahead and bought a sli capable mb for two 9500's. I hope that i can get 4 different displays from that setup.Surprising that hardly anyone is replying. I suppose not many people run multiple monitors. Very surprising.. for FS.Thanks for all the info.Gary
