February 17, 201115 yr I'd like to point out — in case you were unaware — that in aviation, voice communications are broadcast on VHF (specifically, frequencies in the range of 118 to 137 MHz) and are amplitude modulate (AM). You should know from listening to a normal radio in your car, for example, that AM stations are of significantly poorer quality than FM (frequency modulated) stations; there is a degree of distortion as a result of interference. This distortion could be part of the problem you're having. The VATSIM clients simulate this distortion to add realism, however it can be bypassed by unticking the "Simulate VHF Transmission" box under the "Voice" tab in "Options..." using SquawkBox. It can also be done in FSINN, though I don't have it installed. However there is a similar setting somewhere as I used to use FSINN and remember seeing it. This should make the voice much clearer and far easier to understand, especially to someone who's unfamiliar with the phraseology. However, for added realism you should keep it on and practise listening to controllers. Soon you'll have no trouble at all understanding them! Andrew McCluskey
February 17, 201115 yr Commercial Member Nice!I have never flown offline :)1. Either voice or text ALWAYS have a piece of paper handy and write down what they tell you..Especially clearences e.t.c No stress and you can readback correctly. I personally have a small a4 whiteboard and a marker and use for this kind of stuff.2.Get a usb head set. then you can have your headset for fsinn and FS from your home cinema3. Ask for the controller to adjust his quality. If he is talking with the mic IN his mouse, just tell him....We are people also you know :))))))4. Try to fly with online coverage always as you did with this flight, you ll never go back . __________________________________________________________________________________________ My FS Photos - My MSFS Settings - i7-14700K / 64GB RAM / MSI 4070 Ti SUPER / 1440p
February 17, 201115 yr I also had trouble hearing what people said at the start, but with experience it became much much better and now I have no problems understanding what they are saying, even without adjusting any settings.

As much as love flying through European Airspace and the rest of the world nothing beats arriving in US airspace after a long haul over the atlantic and announcing Fedex 218 Heavy with you FL400 makes me feel like a long haul truck driver :) Rob Prest
February 17, 201115 yr Author Thanks for your help guys. In real world flights i have no problem with understanding the controllers thats why i asked maybe i did something wrong with the setup. Now i guess this distortion simulation is my problem.I just arrived home and will try to setup the sim to get the sounds separately. I will let you know where i can get. Thanks for helping Laszlo Meszaros
February 17, 201115 yr i both fly and work as ATC on IVAO and some people really have huge problems with distortion and other anoying things on the sound, but with practise and pre planning of the route and approach i can predict most of the instructions i get, so i can figure out what they want to say, then they will inform me if im wrong. But a headset is gold, when i got me a good quality headset i all the sudden was able to understand a lot more, plus practise helps, the more i fly the more i understand, as long as i stay out of France, they have a strange idea that i understand france even when i speak english to them :(
February 18, 201115 yr Author Hi.As you said i unchecked the distortion simulation and set up to get atc via headphones and everything else from the speakers i have to tell you guys that i had an awesome flightThank You very much for your help. Laszlo Meszaros
