February 18, 201115 yr Hi all, I've copied/pasted the directions below that are found in the MD-11X introduction pdf file about a 3gb patch that will allow FSX to use more than 2 gb. The directions are not very specific on where and how to do this I think. For one, I'm running window's 7 and when I right click my computer and go through the steps below. there is no option to edit and find the file it's talking about. Plus when I tried to run the downloaded attachment, a window's explorer window opens and opens a file. It does not run through an installation. Does anyone know if I even need this patch? I'm running window's 7 on a new hp, with FSX & acceleration. FSX runs good but I have 6gb of ram and a new desk top in the mail with an i7-950 and 12 gb of ram. Should I even mess with this? Thanks, Go to your FSX root directory and make a backup of FSX.EXE (just in case!) Run the 3GB EXE patch utility, and navigate to your FSX.EXE file. Allow the utility to patch FSX.EXE. This will allow FSX to utilize more than 3GB of ram. Next, you should right click on MY COMPUTER and selected Properties/Advanced/Settings/Edit. Find the line that reads: multi(O)disk(O)rdisk(O)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 3GB" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn Add the following line immediately following: /3GB Reboot the machine.Rob Robert Bucci
February 18, 201115 yr If you have FSX SP2 installed then FSX is already >2GB aware and you do not need to do anything. If you do not have SP2 installed then you should download SP2 and install it anyway. If you have Acceleration already installed then you already have SP2 installed. If you want to check your FSX.exe and see that it is >2GB aware then to to Paul J's Reply #4 in the below link and it gives you instructions on how to use CFF Explorer to check the FSX.exe settings.http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=1307.0The other part about what you posted pertains to Windowns XP and has nothing to do with you since you have Windows 7. I would not run any of those so called patches that you downloaded from PMDG.One more thing, you did not say if you have Win7 32 bit or Win7 64 bit, if you have Win7 32 bit then you can not use more than 4GB of physical memory. If you want to use 6GB or more of physical memory then you need to install Win7 64 bit.http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx
