New Computer with issues

Featured Replies

I just had a computer built here are the specs: Intel i7 950 ASUS Sabertooth X58 mobo EVGA GTX570 Superclocked 12GB RAM Seagate 1TB HD Win 7 64 bit I just installed fsx (I am a first time user; normally an x-plane flier). So I don't know hardly anything about fsx, but with the settings all down low it is incredibly laggy. I can't be getting much more than a few frames a second. It just isn't functional at all; this is without a single add-on and at low settings. Why am I encountering this with my setup?

Could be many things. I would try doing a driver clean and reinstall it of your graphics card.

i literally have had the computer for a matter of hours, FSX is the first thing I've put on it. I updated the graphics card driver before I installed. My setup should be sufficient for running fsx beyond low settings correct?

Hmm, there is something wrong though. If you are only getting 4 to 10 frames something seems wrong if you are on the lowest setting possible.

i don't know the exact frame rate but it is so laggy I can't even look around. I am incredibly upset because I just dropped a pretty large penny on this machine and if this is how it is going to run FSX; I am going to scream. I bought this machine with the intentions of being able to run the program with very high settings and good addons.

You should be running fsx better than a few frames on low setting.

Try reducing to 6 gb ram, could be it. And make sure the right coloured slots are filled. Next, tweak the hell out of your fsx.cfg ;)Bjorn

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your Motherboard and Graphics card. Then, have a look at:http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.htmlandhttp://www.simforums.com/forums/fsx-and-nhancer-settings-for-new-drivers-updated_topic36586.htmlandhttp://forum.avsim.net/topic/318918-automated-tweaking-and-tuning-tool-for-fsx/FSX is a strange animal, so perversely running on lower settings can actually make performance worse, so try higher settings.

i'll give those links a try. I know I have the newest updates for the graphics card, but the Asus site isn't the easiest to find things. I can't find driver updates for the Sabertooth X58. I did put the settings up and that just made it incredibly worse.

After looking over those links; all I have to say is this; I never realized in order to fly on FSX you had to be so educated in computers and how to operate/optimize them. I have never flown on FSX before, I fly xplane, and it that doesn't come close to how much of a headache this is. Maybe I'll just call it good and give up on this.
Make sure you have FSX SP1 and FSX SP2. It makes a HUGE difference. Yes, it would be very nice if FSX was "plug and play" - but sadly even with all the computer advances since its' release, it still requires lots of tweaking.

I just need to slow down and go one step at a time. I was so excited about finally being able to run FSX (and well or so I think) I didn't know there was so much more that goes into this. I'll continue with x-plane as I am trying to learn the FSX ropes and tweaks. I did install sp1 and sp2 along with some of the the recommendations in the win7 guide over at simforums and she actually runs smooth now! Now to get REX and UTX on there and see how much the graphics improve
