March 5, 201115 yr With the older i7's we were supposed to use triple channel memory kits. What are we using with the i5 2500k and i7 2600k?Thanks | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
March 5, 201115 yr Author Ok, interesting. So 1366 was triple channel and 1155/56 is dual correct? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
March 5, 201115 yr The terminology "dual channel" vs. "triple channel" is misleading and relates to the quantity of RAM sticks packaged in a RAM kit sold by the vendor. All the tech specs are saying is "has 2 memory channels" in one case and "has 3 memory channels" in the other, so the former takes 2 RAM sticks and the latter takes 3 RAM sticks, but there is nothing inherently different in the RAM sticks themselves: They are exactly the same. The only problem if you buy a "triple channel RAM kit" for a "dual channel" MB is you have one RAM stick left over.Sandy Bridge CPUs sporting Socked 2011 (avail. 4Q2011) will sport "quadruple channel" RAM: You will be able to use 2x "dual channel" RAM kits. The situation is different for DDR3 RAM sticks vs. the older DDR2: They are quite different and cannot be interchanged.Just thought I'd share this.Cheers,- jahman.

If you have two, it's double channel.Sandy Bridge is double channel but if you buy a "triple channel kit' you can still use all three/four dimms (It just won't run in triple channel!). I think your post is a tiny bit misleading but not incorrect. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
March 5, 201115 yr Yes, that's correct, as your board can have more than one RAM socked per channel. Forgot about that! :-)Cheers,- jahman.
