How to generate a new exe.xml file

Featured Replies

Paul JThanks for your reply; I need a little help still...Do I download MS XML notepad and then move the file into the location where FSX-cfg is?The designer of the software I want to install provided me with the lines I have to add,so that shouldn't be a problem...I just want to make sure that I'll get it right and avoid a reinstall or repair.Berlopez

No - don't mix the Editor with the job you're doing. Yes - you can download Microsoft's XML Editor, as it's a great tool, and easy on the eye when using it, but the editor is nothing to do with what you have to do - it's just another tool, and you can use Notepad or Notepad++, both work just fine when you need to edit any text file without the risk of adding hidden characters in the way that Microsoft "Word" does.Soooo - Uninstall any app that you know uses an exe in the sim. Go to the C:Users(your username)ApplicationDataMicrosoftFSX folder, open up Notepad while this thread is open in your browser, go up to Ryan's post (#10) and follow his instruction there to re-create the exe.xml file and then save it. Once that's done, do the reinstalls and FSX should put back the entries when it starts. If you want to manually add the entries, then yes - use one of the editors, and put in the lines you need like so (and like the lines in Meshman's post (#5). These lines tell FSX the name of the addon, whether you have disabled it or not, and where the heck to find it :-<Launch.Addon> <Name>EZdok camera addon</Name> <Disabled>false</Disabled> <Path>C:Program Files (x86)EZCAEZCA.exe</Path> </Launch.Addon> <Launch.Addon> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Name>Autothumbnail</Name> <Path>F:Flight Simulator XAutothumbnailAutothumbnail.exe</Path> </Launch.Addon>

HI Paul, This is way over my head,I'm afraid to say...I can't even open the FSX folder in notepad,as you describe above; I don't get the choice when I right click the folder...If that's what one is supposed to do?Some time ago I downloaded and installed an addon by a local designer, he decided to use his own design auto installers and I think this is the guilty one for deleting my file and all others that might have been in there...? Only the remainants empty foders of this addon are still in my microsoft (x86) folder; I guess when I uninstalled it,and I don't remember when...It took with it the file?I am suffering terrible performance(Very low FPS and freezes) with FSX since attepting to install Banking Camera....I think I'm going to live without it; As you can see by my specs I'm way below min.specs.

If FSX is still working - then the exe.xml is still there, Berl - you just can't see it because your "View" settings are hiding it, along with the fsx.cfg, dll.xml and a buch of other files. Open Explorer up, go to "Tools" -> "Folder Options" ->"View", scroll down and put a check mark in the following box: "Show hidden files, folders and drives", and then uncheck these: "Hide empty drives in the computer folder" "Hide extensions for known file types" Hide protected operating system files" (Here you will get a warning message - ignore it and go ahead.I also uncheck "Show pop-up description for fo.....", "Show preview handlers.."Use checkboxes to se.."Now you should be able to see your exe.xml.

HI Paul J, Thanks for your very valuable advice. I have done as you indicate above...The exe.xml still doesn't show. The funny thing is FSX is still performing as it was before I got bit by The addon I wanted to add ( Banking Camera) .I discovered earlier today in Google what you recommend and went to study the matter,my way, asking for help how to open folder options etc...And it wasn't there. I fallowed your procedure,it makes it easier,I have to say :( But...still inexplicably it isn't anywhere.I've even donea asearch through out my C: And "No Result for this search"...I do however have 2 dll.xml files in the location.???

I cannot find the "edit option,so I post again...I apologize.Paul The designer just replied saying:Sorry to hear of your troubles. I’m afraid I can’t be of much help... from what I gather, most people simply install and it works. The exe.xml file is not required for BC to work, it’s only if you want to automate the startup of BC (and any other) add-ons.I think exe.xml is created by the FSX SDK, but you can create your own one using notepad or similar. Save it in C:Users{your name}AppDataRoamingMicrosoftFSXBelow is the contents of my exe.xml:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?><SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0"><Descr>Launch</Descr><Filename>EXE.xml</Filename><Disabled>False</Disabled><Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad><Launch.Addon><Disabled>False</Disabled><ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad><Name>Banking Camera</Name><Path>C:Program Files (x86)FSX Banking CameraBanking Camera.exe</Path></Launch.Addon></SimBase.Document>Certainly you should not need to exit fullscreen. Remember, to bring up the menu in full screen, press ALT. To make it go away again, press and hold ALT for a second.More than that, I can only guess that there is a conflict with 3rd party aircraft or add-ons. Unfortunately I am by no means a FSX expert This is what is mentioned above, but more to my understanding; Please don't ask why; :( I'm thick headed. So all I have to do is to create a new File in notepad, include the lines in Purple he has sent above save and move that file to where the FSX.cfg file resides??? Just to make sure?

Could not edit the previous post...No no luck the exe.xml is nowhere to be found?Another little thing I'd lie to ask is now I get a white box whenever I navigate on top of any folder, from desktop or anywhere, whenI put my mouse on the box a blue tick appears; This little box is located on the topleft corner of all icons or folders...I've run throuigh the procedure described above, just to make sure I hadn't left anything worgly checked or unchecked,I even pressed the "default option" but the little box is still there???My Exe.xml is apparently missing, strange FSX still works like before, I started messing about with Banking Camera; ( By this I DO NOT MEAN that the software is at fault! )...The desigber has contacted me telling me to create a new file in notepad, include a set of lines(above in Purple) and then eventually add the lines he sent me to use Banking Camera...if I do go so far???

The white box is there to add extra functionality to Explorer. Open the Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and uncheck "Use checkboxes to select items".If there is no exe.xml, you probably don't have any executional addons in the sim, that's all. From what I read of that Banking Camera, it runs externally to FSX and doesn't require any entries anywhere, as it uses SimConnect.Anyway - browse to the spot where the fsx.cfg is, open Notepad, copy and paste what he has posted above, and just save it as exe.xml - that's all you have to do.

Thanks PaulRight after I posted this I went to check for myself and unticked the box.I was just going to come back and edit my post saying that I had got rid of the box. When the bell of anew message sounded.Reg.exe.xml I don't have any other executional addons in My FSX except FSUIPC,which is essential. Never understood why MS hsan't made it standard part of sim?I will got and do as you reccomend ina bit and will report...BTW? Are there any other contents in the exe.xml that are standard,or is it an empty folder until one puts in new lines? Thanks for all your advice and promtness, belopez

I guess while you were replying to this I was searching for answers how to get rid of the box and did, I've sent you a little PMThanks, berlopez

Paul in baby steps, I download form your post 15One will find Microsoft's XML NotePad here:-http://www.microsoft...lang=en&id=7973Then let FSX run once, so it has a chance to load anything I might have that need to be put in there? Then i can add in the line the designer of Banking Camera sent me and save...? Or am I thinking life too simple?berlopez
