ILS Landings

Featured Replies

I know that this is a very basic question, but for the life of me I can't figure it out.... I am used to flying the PMDG and LVL D's with FSX because of the scenery that I have purchased.. however, as you probably know, PMDG hasn't released their FSX 737.. so I have been flying the Stock 737's.. Usually, I will find the route on Flight Aware, load it in SimRoutes, and then load that route on startup of FSX. I have to then fly it in GPS mode.. But I can't seem to get the ILS to Active. When nearing the airport, I switch to NAV mode.. But nothing, in spite of having dialed in the LOC setting into NAV1.... This used to work for me, but now it doesn't... I am sure that I am forgetting something.. but I can't figure it out....Any help is appreciated.

Did you switch NAV to GPS?Peter Sydney Australia

1. Dial in the LOC/ILS frequency into Nav1. (If the LOC doesn't have DME and you want to know how far out you are, dial the DME source into Nav2.)2. Line up for approach - HDG, SPD, etc.3. Get below the glideslope! Hold your altitude.4. If you haven't already, switch GPS to NAV.5. Activate "APProach hold."Then the usual -- monitor your speed, drop your flaps and gear when appropriate. Arm spoilers. Set autobrake if necessary (not from the VC). Disco the autopilot at minimums. Land.

Thanks.. I think that is what I have been doing, but will try again... One question though, will the LOC/Glideslope show up before or after I switch to APP hold.. What I mean is will APP hold then make the LOC/GS show up.. or should it show up on the screen before?ThanksBob

Hi Bob, :( The LOC/ILS signal should appear regardless whether or not you have APP hold on or not. (I don't think APP hold will do much for you until you receive the Loc/ILS signal, FWIW.)You might select Nav1 ID to "listen" to the ID of the xmitter signal. If you hear the correct ID then you should have the LOC/ILS active. Some VOR gauges might not show the ILS while you're in GPS mode though. (I use the ISG glass panels when I fly the default aircraft and I don't remember the default panel's behavior.)
