Crashing on the Andes

Featured Replies

Yesterday I made a flight from Madrid Barajas to Lima Chavez airport and I flew during the night at FL 370.I followed the vectors from RC in order to land and I crashed on the mountains.Have I done anything wrong or RC does not know the area around the airport?

whenever you fly into or out of airports surrounded by terrain, you should enable arrival/departure notams.pg 50, and 105 - www.jdtllc.com/v4/rcv43.pdfjd

In addition to NOTAMS as jd suggested avoid vectors from RC in departing or arriving in mountainous terrain airports. Include SID and STAR waypoints in your flight plan. If needed for departure select No Altitude Restrictions in the controller page. For arrival after approach assigns your runway and you ack it request an IAP for that runway. Follow the charts. The Andes is notorious for these problems.
