Hi everyone,I have a new custom built system:i5-2500K oc'd to 4.8GHzP8P67 Pro Mobo8GB 1600mhz RAMZotac GeForce GTX 460 SE 1GB 500GB WD Caviar Blue 7200RPM driveAsetek Liquid CoolingWin7 x64I'm certain this setup is optimal for FSX, and don't get me wrong I'm getting super results. But if I'm sitting on 31R at JFK facing the city, I'm only getting just above 20 fps, dipping below that often for a split second.Mind you, I've tweaked with Bojote's service, and followed NickN's guide for cleaning up Win7 and installing FSX, but I feel I should be getting more? This is also a clean install, so I'm not sure if its gonna hold once the onslaught of addons come. If I'm just being picky or blatantly ungrateful then please tell me, but if anyone else sees some sort of inconsistency, would you maybe have an idea why this is so?Thank you,Pat

What are your autogen trees and buildings set at? I seem to remember Bojote setting them too high for my taste.Bjorn

Same here, I dont like billions of trees all over the place, and houses too!Put this in the CFG under "TERRAIN"TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=3000TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3000PatP:Here´s your problem:"500GB WD Caviar Blue 7200RPM drive" How did you install FSX?

Why should a disk be a fps problem cause??Things we need:What scenery installed? What aircraft, VC?Autogen settings?CPU overclocked or stock? What gpu IQ settings? - try default to rule out the GPU

A storage drive for FSX?That´s a big FPS problem! But oh well, go ahead and complicate matters..."CPU overclocked or stock?"Read the OP´s post for C.´s sake!Rolling%20Eyes.gif

A Caviar Blue is not that much slower than your Caviar Black for example, and Word Not Allowed is right, that's not a problem, it's probably just too demanding settings somewhere.

Oh give me break... I'm doing this from my iPhone. I just misread it.

Not exactly,There are a maximum of 1300 Buildings per FSX cell. Here is a analysis on the subject posted in ORBX forums (You must log in):Autogen TweakKind regards,

Hi PatYou need a base reference. Run the FSXMark11 bench(as close to specifications as time will allow) and compare your results with others with similar hardware. After that? Well, you're on your own. :-)

I go even lower than that, I'm at around 1800 each.B

@SpiritFlyer:I would prefer a statement from one of the guys who participated in creating FSX, not an add on company!http://blogs.msdn.co...e-envelope.aspx"The range of Autogen goes up to 6000 per cell for both buildings and trees"http://blogs.msdn.co...influences.aspx"3000 trees per cell is certainly within those limits. So that change alone gets us close to "within bounds" 1000/100 works wonders on any system IMO!

Tor, before you say much more, I really suggest you read the analysis at the link given. There is information there you might benefit knowing, especially if you are going to advise others. As much knowledge of a subject as possible is a good thing to have before teaching or brushing off others.Kind regards,

Wow. Your arrogance is really catching up with you. Your links are from late 2007 and mid 2008, for one. Since then this community and the few others have gotten a better, more sound understanding of the inner workings of FSX.The Caviar Blue is not a terrible drive, and it will not effect frame rates as much as you'd like to think. Please don't convolute peoples threads with misguided advice, as other's reading on down the road will take your word for it. :Sleepy:

It's not a company's opinion, it's a forum where normal people as well as developers hang out. Even Bojote graces those fora with his presense now and then. There's some knowledge to be gsined there.Bjorn
