April 12, 201115 yr Hi there, I know you guys build extremely accurate aircraft systems and i was wondering if you are including the retard mode for the auto throttles. I know that it all works off the rad alt but i didnt know how difficult it is to model or weather or not you would do it for me real as it gets is the key and would like to see it.Thanks in advance keep up the good workall the bestCraig Craig Hobson
April 12, 201115 yr The PMDG NGX is, hands-down the most complex system simulation of any airliner yet produced for FSX- whether you look at the detail of the airplane model, the cockpit, the behaviors of the FMS, or the way the aircraft systems are tied together into a living, breathing airplane- this simulation is unlike anything you have ever experienced in FSX.
April 12, 201115 yr I'm pretty sure that it will be build in as it was in the MD11. If they are able to do it there then they can also do it here. Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
April 12, 201115 yr I never knew the 737 had that feature. I thought it was just the 777, MD-11 that had it... Learn something new every day. Anyway, as Emanuel has said, if they managed it on the MD-11 they will be able to do it here! Thanks
April 12, 201115 yr The 737 has that feature. But that has already caused many almost crashes and one real one. Remember the Turkish 738 crashing at AMS in 2009? That was because Autothrottle pulled the trustlevers back because it went into FLARE mode in 1000ft because the radio altimeter failed and showed -8ft.Sadly the pilots didn't notice and stalled. Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
April 12, 201115 yr A lot of people are interested if auto throttle is going to enter RETARD mode if radio altimeter fails. Actually that problem did cause an accident however not all altimeter malfunctions will make auto-throttle command RETARD mode. The problem with radio altimeter is relatively ofen however, entering RETARD mode is very very rare. That's why even Boeing didn't consider it as a serious problem before the accident. --- Howie Wong
April 12, 201115 yr Ok Thanks. Is that type of accident only recorded to happen once?According to b737.co.uk, there has only been one hull loss as a result of a radio altimeter failure. As mentioned previously, the RA failure does not automatically mean the AT will switch to retard mode. Out of 456 RA failures in the past decade, only 12 led to the retard mode being activated. The Turkish crew had a over 90 seconds to notice that the FMAs changed to indicate a flare. The accident was one of the most easily preventable catastrophes in the history of aviation. Joe Sherrill
