Will this computer work well for FSX

Featured Replies

I have no doubts that this computer will run any game out there right now, but how will it run the beast (FSX)? Thanks!!!http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/CyberPower_X58_Configurator/In a nut shell:Intel Core i7-960 CPU6GB DDR3-PC1600 RAMNVIDIA GT520 1GB VideoMSI X58 USB3 & SATA-III Motherboard1TB SATA-II 7200 RPM HD24X DVD+-R/+-RW Drive

Hi Jeff,The above mentioned specs are far below optimal for running FSX. The power of the CPU, RAM, and GPU and PSU are all going to be insufficient. If the CPU was overclocked to 4.2GHz and above, it may barely be adequate, but the rest is not. Sandy Bridge will cost no more and produce far better results. The video card needs significant upgrading as well. A minimum in the Nvidia 500 series would be the 560, and that, just barely.

How can I tell if a processor is a sandy bridge version or not? Or should I say name me some processors that are sandy bridge, thanks. I want to get this computer right.

I will look for a possible setup for you from newegg.com and give you a link in a few minutes. Do you already have an operating system, and monitor?Kind regards,

Hi Stephen, thanks for your help. I do have Win7 64 available to buy when I get a new system, and I also have a monitor. So basically, the whole reason I was going to go with these guys, is that their computers come with liquid cooling, I would build a computer myself from new egg, but I have never installed a liquid cooling system, and I'm also a little nervous that the components I pick won't work well with each other and will cause hardware issues. With the company I was looking at (cyber power) their systems are already tested and all that. I guess I just don't have the confidence to build my own system even though I have the technical knowledge.

Though, I might just build one myself. The CPU liquid cooling looks like just two or three pieces you attach to the top of the processor, probably not too difficult.

Hi Jeff, Please email me at spirit dot flyer at rogers dot com with your zip code and email address. I will have NewEgg email you the shopping cart of what would work great for $1,126.90 including shipping. There are a variety of good and quiet air coolers. As far as putting it together a number of us here will help you. If you need to SKYPE, I would be glad to walk you through it.With these specs you can have one of the fastest FSX engines on the planet. No kidding. I hope this helps.Kind regards,

Hi Jeff,The liquid cooling system on the computer you linked is a factory built sealed system. It's no harder to install than a normal air cooler and it requires no maintenance and no adding of any liquid. I would suggest picking up an h60 (more or less the same thing) and building your own computer. These coolers can be beat by some of the high end air coolers, but once you get one, I don't think you can ever go back to air cooling. They cool well, they're quiet, and they free up a lot of space.CPU: i5-2500k MOBO: Asus P8P67 Pro or Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3GPU: GTX560 or GTX570The above items have pretty much become the backbone of a solid FSX system around here. There's more expensive, there's less expensive, but the above items are pretty standard for the budget conscious. Keep in mind that the new Z68 motherboards will be released on May 8th. It may be that they provide no benefits for FSX specifically, but I would still recommend waiting to find out for sure. Gigabyte, for example, is actually discontinuing its P67 line in lieu of Z68. That's news as of today. Nothing has been heard from Asus or any of the other big mobo manufacturers.

Hi Jeff,Corey brings up some good points, and there is likely no compelling reason to act this week instead of down the road. On the other hand there is no real reason to expect that the Z68 boards will have any distinct advantage or speed increase for FSX. Even though there will be announcements on May 8, there will most likely be a substantial delay beyond that before there is much selection available for purchase from the major manufacturers, at what might also be at a higher cost. More to think about!Kind regards,

If its any help and if you happen to have a Newegg.com account, search "FSX" in the public wishlist and you'll see a couple of wishlists I prepared with corresponding prices ranging from $1400-2200 because I'll be purchasing my own rig soon .Big%20Grin.gif
