New build

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I just wanted to share my experience with my sandy bridge build. Went alot easier then I thought and it runs fsx like a dream. Never thought that would ever happen. My old system was a q6600 running at 3.2 with vista 32. My new build is a 2500k at 4.6 running w7 64 bit. The difference in performance is amazing. If anybody is on the fence about building your own pc just do it. Saved some money and learned quite a bit. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. Later boys.

These are stories I love to hear! Good for you and congratulations! You should copy this to the hardware section too! How about taking the FSX Mark11 Benchmark test for the FSX database!Kind regards,

Thanks for the kind words Stephen. Still learning the new processor and MB hoping to get a overclock closer to yours.

I just wanted to give a little update. I settled on a 4.4 overclock for now 4.6 was giving me ctd's. With REX, GEX, and the turbine duke my fps is very good on the higher settings. I can keep a very smooth 35-40fps. Just downloaded ORBX PNW last night and that put alot of strain on my system. Very understandable due to the high detail though. Seattle sitting on the runway in the duke with medium to high settings Im getting around 25-30 fps. I was expecting a little bit more honestly with the ORBX scenery but still satisfied overall.

Higher fps will not necessarily give you better fsx performance. Why don't you lock your frames at 30? You'll see a lot smoother running fsx especially with PNW scenery. I also hope you haven't moved your sliders all the way to the right. It doesn't look like it as you were only getting 35-40 fps w/o PNW installed. But, if your sliders are all the way to the right you might want to slowly move a few back to get a more realistic graphics presentation and much smoother performance. Best regards,Jim

I would say I am running medium settings right now with PNW. I will try locking my frames to 30. Thanks very much for the suggestions. Any more advice will be much appreciated.

What MB is installed? Overclocking parameters are probably causing your crashes at 4.6. There's a lot of help over at the hardware forum about overclocking your Sandy Bridge system properly. In my case I have an ASUS board and found several links at the Hardware Forum to sites dedicated to overclocking one particular board. If you follow what others have done, you shouldn't have any problems overclocking your system up to 4.8GHz and maybe even higher.Best regards,Jim

Im using the Asrock extreme 4. I think I just made 4.6 stable with only adjusting the multiplier and bumping up my vcore. All other settings are at default right now. Temps are at 63-65 C when running prime95. Just still trying to learn the MB and all the different settings. Kinda alot to take on at first.

Here's a good site for overclocking info for your MB - http://www.overclock.net/intel-motherboards/912219-official-asrock-p67-discussion-owners-club.html. And here is a link to a video of someone overclocking to 5.5GHz with all the data required to do it:
I wouldn't do it but it indicates you can overclock a bit higher without any issues.Best regards,Jim
