PC won't POST . . .

Featured Replies

Check to see if the board might be shorting against the case somehow. I had this happen not too long ago. I changed cases and when I installed my mobo, the system wouldn't post. I RMA'd the board to Asus and they couldn't find anything wrong. In the meantime I purchased another board that worked fine. Recently, I decided to install the original board in my case. Still no post. I'm sure the board must have been shorting somewhere. Something to look anyhow.

It appears to have been my QX9650. Since I had another ASUS P5E3 Premium new in the box, I decided to pick up another PC Power n Cooling 750W 60A single rail PSS for a nice price of $59 after rebaite, and a new Q9650 CPU. So I put the new PSS on my original P5E3 Prem mainboard, with my QX9650 sitting where it has for 2.5y, and no go. So the PSS is ruled out. Recall I had moved the CPU to the new mainboard w/ the old PSS, to no avail. All was restored when I replaced the CPU with a new Q9650. Didn't want to have to do that as I was determined to go at least another year or two since FSX runs dandy, but alas the rest of my parts are fine, so I was loath to do a total upgrade. I'm trying to put that off another 2y probably, but bump up the the latest CPU/GPU at that point. I'll take the new PSS and new mainboard and pick up maybe a Q9550 for a friend who doesn't sim, but needs an upgrade from his very old AMD 1Ghz CPU!Anyway, thanks for you thoughts I'm happy to be up and running. I do have another question though, but it would be best posted as a new post for more visibility.Noel
