April 22, 201115 yr Hi all,I really enjoyed RC4.3 in FS9. I upgraded to FSX about 6 months ago and never got around to installing RC for FSX. I just did so earlier this week and it isn't working for me at all. No matter what I do I can't get past the first window with "Wx briefing" or Clearence from FSS" menu options (I'm starting at an uncontrolled airport). When I press the key for either one I see the window display change very quickly to "standby" and then back to the same menu choices, with no sound from RC. If I hit the keystroke to minimize the window nothing happens.I've done the following:1) Upgraded FSUIPC to 4.70 - no change2) Confirmed that I can hear sound from the "Voices" menu on the opening screen3) Loaded a default aircraft at the default airport (KFHR) with no REX weather and no UT2 traffic. - no change4) Adjusted my windows sound acceleration setting down one notch - no change Would anyone have any other troubleshooting ideas that I could try? Many thanks Marc Musgrove
April 22, 201115 yr Autotune on contact set?It also takes RC longer to generate a weather report or clearance. Give it plenty of time.Have you rebuilt your scenery library so RC knows where you are at the airport?Creating a log starting before you load your plan and sending it in after you quit rc (you might want to rename it after quitting RC so it doesn't get written over - It is in your RCV4 folder as rcv4.log) will show jd what is happening. See "how to send me a log" thread at the forum top. Be sure you have properly selected the various voices and try a different set.Make sure you have the comms. Have the option to display text off and have the option to play pilot wavs on so you can hear the pilot make a request. Try a different set of voice selections.Recheck anyway that you have your Win mixer master and wav faders up.In addition try a different default airport. Look at the controller page to see if the various frequencies are compatible with your comm gear.

April 22, 201115 yr Author I am using RC successfully right now. I'm not sure which suggestion made the difference; I started at a different default airport, right clicked to "run as adminstrator" (even though I am logged in as Administrator), and waited several minutes on the ground before trying any menu options. Now it works - many thanks for your prompt and kind help. Now I'll try to break it again with the MeatWater voice packs! Marc Musgrove
April 22, 201115 yr Logging in as an administrator or with admin rights is not the same as setting a shortcut to run an app as an admin or right clicking on an app to run as admin. It is how you have the app set to run that counts for Vista and Win 7.

Now I'll try to break it again with the MeatWater voice packs!i just finished writing this in another post, to someone else"i don't know how many times people will tell me that they sign on as administrator - that's not the same as running as admin. signing on as administrator means you are have lowly user access rights. that's part of windows 7. same thing, if your user account is a member of the administrators group. doesn't matter, you log in, and you have user rights. you can only run rc on windows 7 (and vista), by right mouse clicking the .exe or shortcut, and clicking run as administrator. (you can also change the compatibility options to do this)." JD Read my blog
April 24, 201115 yr Author I hate to throw a wrench into this (after all it is working) but I am not operating on a Win7 or Vista platform, just plain old Win XP SP3.I appreciate the difficulties people have experinced with the issues you describe in Win7 or Vista, but I have never experienced similar problems with Win XP. The important thing is that I made several flights today with RC and everything worked perfectly. Each time I started RC by right-clicking and running as Administrator. Thanks again for your prompt and helpful support! Marc Musgrove
April 24, 201115 yr In Win XP if you want to see if any of your FS and RC folders are tagged read only in their properties. I think in XP admin can overwrite these restrictions. You need full permissions to read, write, delete, modify.
