Why dose the First Officer communicate to ATC?

Featured Replies

It seems that sometimes the first officer speak to ATC again and again when I said the word "zulu".Why dose this happen? It also happens when I said nothing and the word "zulu" is recognized by the computer by mistake.

"Zulu" is one of the trigger words in the communication with the de-ice team when you're using de-icing. It's described in the manual.

Yes, this command make some troubles for me too, 'cause computer recognizes word "zulu" by mistake very, very often... Since I've installed Windows 7, it happens a little less. I've tried to change the sensivity of my microphone (i'm not using 20dB boost), and it didn't help...Conclusion: I guess that you are using headset microphone :(

It appears (and this seems to vary from machine to machine, with the best results being in Win 7), that the shorter the word, the more likely it can be picked up by the speech recognition system. Thanks why I use "thank you" instead of "thanks" as a trigger word in some instances.

So maybe is any longer command for de-ice, which is using in the real aviation? I'm getting angry when i'm in the middle of the checklist, and the computer recognizes "zulu" ;/

In the next update, I change the trigger phrase to "zulu time". That should reduce the liklihood of false recognition.
