April 23, 201115 yr Hi,I was looking for some advice regarding graphics cards.I have currently got a ati - HIS HD5750 1GB card.I am getting respectable frames in FSX with little or medium amounts of aa/afI want to increase my aa/af as I hate jaggies and stuttering. But increasing them leaves me with frame rates of 1-5fps from 20fps - ishIs this related just to the graphics card or does the cpu also affect this. If it is the gpu what cards offer the best performance within a budget of say 150€ - 200€Cheers, Mark Fernandez
April 23, 201115 yr I think you can get decent performance out of that CPU, but you have to overclock it. I personally recommend the gtx 460 ( or the more expensive gtx 560 ti). These cards have amazing price/performance ratios.I know I have a sandy bridge I7, but I am able to use 8xsq anti aliasing in fsx and still get great frames with that card. It also runs other games with high frames with high settings. Alfredo Terrero

Just dont want to waste money on something that may or may not work. Thanks again Mark Fernandez
April 23, 201115 yr Commercial Member You shouldn't be getting such a huge FPS loss, the 5750 is still a decent card... I just don't have very much experience with the current AMD driver though to be able to tell you how to set it unfortunately. Nvidia cards are generally better for FS.AA/AF actually has nothing at all to do with the CPU - it's totally done on the video card. April 23, 201115 yr Author AA/AF actually has nothing at all to do with the CPU - it's totally done on the video card. Thanks for the info Ryan.I will continue to try different things. But been doing that for months with no real improvement. I might reinstall windows at some stage, if that fails I will probably get a Nvidia 470gtx card.In fsx is there much difference between the 256/320/384 bus? I know the price difference is quite large. Thanks again for the advice, Mark Fernandez
April 23, 201115 yr Commercial Member Don't get a 470, that's the older chipset now - get a 460, 560 Ti, 570, or 580 - those are all based on the newer chip (yes, even though the 460 is a lower number, it's newer than the 470) The memory bus varies depending on the exact GPU, it really isn't possible to say one is "better" than the other, it's just part of the chip architecture. I'm very happy with my 570, though I do play a lot of other games that use the horsepower. If you're just doing FSX, get the 460 or 560 Ti. April 23, 201115 yr Author I would probably get a 460 then. If I wanted to really max out the aa/af would they both do that? Or is it better to go for the 560 Ti. I am only using FSX.Anyway I probably will not be upgrading until I have exhausted all other options or until the NGX is out. Which ever comes first Mark Fernandez

April 24, 201115 yr As a matter of interest I have a new system and had an Nvdia 460 which I had to return as it was faulty.quite a few people had problems with this card (the Nvdia site had nearlt 2000 posts on the subject).I returned it and got a full refund(eybuyer) and decided to try an AMD (Ati) card. I now have a MSi R5850 and everything is fine- very good graphics and no problems.Wonderful frame rates running a sandy bridge 2500kand windows 7 64 bit.David David Pedder

Thanks for the advice Ryan!. Mark Fernandez
April 25, 201115 yr Hi Mark,The one I sent back was Gigabyte but on the Nvidia forum the problems had occuredon a very wide range of makes. As I mentioned about 1800 posts about problems.Nvidia were and as far as I can tell, still are puzzled about this as many boards had noproblem! That is why I decided to not take any more risk and went for a Amd card(Ati). The card I got was the MSi R6850 cyclone power edition. It has very good revue from various sitesand as I mentioned runs MD11 perfectly(and my photographic scenery!)>I must admit that I usually buy Nvidia cards.David David Pedder
