Random reboots!

Featured Replies

Hello, anybody having issues with random reboots with their ASUS P8P67 B3 MBs? I'm 15 minutes into Flightsim and bam, system reboot with no warning, no bluescreen. Its like you are flying along and pressing the power button until the system shuts down and reboots. I've tested the ram and no errors, have updated BIOS 1503, vid card latest drivers 270.61. I've been using RealTemp GT and the max temp I ever got was 62c on one core. In FSX I average 45 -55c and idle at 31c for core temps. I was asking some techs at Compusa (where I got the board) and they suggested either RMA for the board and just get a new one (exact same model) or go with another manufacterer like Gigabyte. I really like this board, and hope it was just a bad board and a new one will solve the problem. I also do 3d graphics and rendering and got a crash while doing a render yesterday (reboot no BSOD).Any suggestions?

Hi I'm no expert but if it only happens when your graphics card is coming into play it may be that. Maybe pull out card and check to see if heatsink is free from dust. I had to do this with my ATI 4850. Cheers

Thanks Brett, it's a brand new build so no time for dust yet, but looks like the card is ok.....I hate these types of issues!!

Hi "boeing". Welcome to the forums. A little more system info would be helpful. Specifically your power supply, and rather or not you're overclocked. If you are overclocked (probably with that CPU), the bios settings. Just a little more information!Off first hand it sounds like a PSU issue, but it's too little info to tell. Could be driver issues. Etc, etc.

One of your bios settings is not set correctly. More than likely the Memory Frequency line under AI Tweaker in the EFI BIOS Utility Advanced Mode. If you let the BIOS overclock your system, it will indicate the memory frequency of your memory in the Memory Frequency line. All you need to do is change this to Auto. I've had a couple of crashes like you described and the Memory Frequency fixed my problem. Hope it does for you too. If that doesn't fix it, then go back into your BIOS and load the Optimized Default settings and see if the crashes still occur. If not, then it probably is some bad BIOS setting. BTW, setting the BCLK/PEG Frequency higher than 100 will also create several unexplained crashes w/o bluescreens when the system is stress by some program like FSX.Best regards,Jim

Hey Zach, I have an 800 watt corsair PSU. The only thing I did with the BIOS was set it to Optimal (performance)....I have a buddy of mine that has a computer shop and he tested the PSU, so far it runs fine. I RMA'd the motherboard and sent it back to Compusa for a replacement. All other components checked out ok.

Hey Jim, yeah I checked that out and no dice, but that is some excellent info to keep in mind when I do overclock my new board coming in. The other problem I was having with the system was it was not coming out of the S3 mode after 1 hour in that state. Not sure if that could be related and if this is all Southbridge error related...weird stuff.I do really love the performance I was getting (when it didn't crash) with FSX.....the next issue I will need to look up when my board comes in and I put everything back together is getting out of the Direct X 10 preview mode so my KFLL and KBUF airport's ground textures don't go gray on me!Thanks folks, excellent forum and lots of help, keep you posted.

I am getting the exact same problem, and it is also within 15 minutes of starting gaming. This is a fresh build i5 2500k, P8P67 pro with an Asus GTX560Ti, and a BFG 800 power supply. 4 gig of kingston RAM. Seems to work fine until a game such as Modern Warfare 2 or other heavy graphic game.

I have also these reboots sometimes and I tracked it down to my weak PSU, especially the weak 12V rail for the GPU. But if you have an 800W PSU, it should hardly be suffice.

Best regards, Steffen
