ASE 642 Wind Direction and Speed

Featured Replies

Since I have installed ASE last Saturday I have made 20-25 flights from 30 minutes to 11 hours in duration. With very few exceptions the wind direction and speed have never agreed between ATIS, and122.025 when approaching the airport and Shift + Z when on the ground. The altimeter is usually close. I have had wind ground speeds reported as high as 61 and at KATL I got a temperatue of -48C from ATIS today. Yesterday ATIS in a matter of 15 minutes reported wind direction at KTPA that required I land north twice and south twice. The runway heading a KTPA is 007/187. The wind direction was not around varying 270 which could cause changes in the correct runway easily. It was switching from 190 to 360 to 185 to calm. I guess what I am saying is either I have got some option set wrong in ASE or ASE and FSX are not communicating correctly. ASE is installed in C:\Program Files (x86) and FSX is in F:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I have attached settings for FSUIPC and ASE at the bottom of this post.To try to prevent changes from the coded route weather at the destination airport from Briefing I disable download as soon as ASE is done and before I import the flight plan.Thank you Michael Cubine

Hi,Create Additional Stations should be On.Enhance Route Coverage should be On.Force Destination should be Off.4 seconds for each 1kt or degree of change is way too slow. A change of 15kts would take a minute. A 60kt change would take over 4 minutes.

JimI will try those settings and see what happens. I will let you know.ThanksMichael Cubine

Jim I changed the general options per your reply and flew from KJFK-KORD. KORD ATIS reported four different conditions the first which had a temp of -48, the second a temp of -23, the third a significant change in wind direction requiring runway changes, and the fourth agreed with 122.025. On the ground all info in the ATIS was close to the conditions in 122.025 and the and the coded route weather in the briefing.Michael Cubine

Hi,Now remove FSUIPC.dll and try a flight. I suggest this because some have noticed that FSUIPC seems to hold the weather from updating especially in DWC Mode. Using the VERY LATEST FSUIPC version may also help.

JimI removed FSUIPC.dll which is an application. FSUIPC no longer showed up under Add-ons in the menu bar in FSX. All the CS planes became unflyable so that is not a solution.I have version 4.53 and I see the lastest version is 4.70b. Do you know if this has to be purchased or is there a free update or upgrade that would make 4.53 current?Michael Cubine

Hi,All versions of FSUIPC are free unless you choose to register it and yours that you were using was very old. I do believe that 4.70 is the latest official release. Pete's forum has later versions.I knew this wasn't a final solution but wanted you just to try it. I think that moving to a newer version of FSUIPC may help you.

The latest FSUIPC modules (now at v. 4.704)can always be found here. Bookmark and check back regulary!Cheers,- jahman.

Jim FSUIPC 4.704 is installed. The CS planes are flyable Tried it on local flight around KTPA using A/P and I used the FSX weather so there is nothing to report other than about FSUIPC.I will now do a flight from KDFW to EDDF in the MD-11. You will not hear from me for awhile as that flight is about 10-11 hours in length. I will see how the weather turn out at EDDF and if the MD-11 starts the dreaded S turns with the value in FSUIPC changed from 4 to 1 per second.Michael Cubine

JimKDFW to EDDF completed. No S-turns but EDDF ATIS was a mess. At KDFW briefing was 330/14 and A29.97. ATIS was 326/17 A29.97 as was 122.025. EDDF was 070/4 and Q1018 for briefing and 122.025 was 069/04 Q1018 throughout the flight, it never varried. ATIS at EDDF was (1) 249/47 (2) 243/16 (3) 196/06 (4) calm with Altimeter ranging from 30.08 to 30.01. Shift + Z indicated 111/03 on the ground. ATIS agreeded and altimeter reports agreeded on the ground. I believe ATIS is getting info from winds aloft when in the air. Numbers 1,2, and 3 are close to what the winds aloft for EDDF showed at FL180, 12000, 9000, and 6000 ft. I believe this is reinforced by what I saw 1 to 2 hours into the flight. Automated Weather Stations ATIS for two airports that had the same ATIS freq as EDDF were reporting temperatures that agreed with with the SAT as show on the PROGESS PAGE of the CDU. Around -48C. Dewpoint was even higher at -56C.Michael Cubine

JimI tried a flight from KATL to KTPA to see if my idea above about ATIS coming from winds aloft seemed right. The route takes me over the SZW VOR which is close to KTLH. I turned their ATIS in and the wind direction, speed, and SAT were very close to coded route weather for SZW - - 260/37,-45. I also tried KGVN which was to the east of the route. Same thing. KTPA ATIS started off with winds from the west at high speeds at FL180 and everytime I tuned ATIS at 12000, 9000, and 6000 the wind was becoming more into agreement with the KTPA weather at the time I departed KATL. On the ground the weather was very close.Michael Cubine

JimI must have been typing the reply when you made your post. What about the changes I made to FSUIPC.ini and FSX.cfg per instructions in the documentation? Change them back or leave them at the same setting?Michael Cubine
