May 16, 201115 yr Hi All,I owned TrackIR way back and I believe it was 3. I am considering 5 but am concerned about performance impact i.e. mem usage cpu usage. I have googled but cannot really find anything that talks about performance as it relates to FSX. I am running Win 7 64. I am really operating on the fringe right now and concerned about adding this to the mix. I was hoping someone has noted the impact on their system with this addon. Any help would be much appreciated.RegardsBob Officially retired
May 16, 201115 yr I've been using TrackIR 5 for quite a while and I've never noticed any kind of impact on FPS. If you get very low frame rates without TIR you may not get the best experience from head tracking since you won't be able change your view smoothly, but adding TIR should not make matters noticeably worse.I can see in the task manager that the application allocates about 35M memory to itself, but on a 64-bit OS that should be a non-issue. If you have a TrackIR 3 and upgrade to a TrackIR 5 you shouldn't see any difference in FSX performance. May 16, 201115 yr But as another has already noted, if your frame rates are already poor, TrackIR will lack smoothness. I lock my framerate at 30 for this reason, which means compromising on water and autogen for the sake of a smoother, more realistic experience.Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
May 16, 201115 yr Make sure you minimize the TrackIR program to the taskbar before flying. Really helps in keeping the FPS impact down. Regards, Frank van der Werff
