May 21, 201115 yr Hey guys,Well im back after a long bout of illness with another question for the pros. Last time i was here Mr Cmeeks and GaryA helped me achieve an o/c of 4.5ghz (thanks again guys) now i'd like to try for a 4.8/5ghz o/c and wondered what voltage you guys would aim for or if you would bother. Im not that tech minded and have to rely on you guys for the help as you know what your doing. I did try 4.8 with 1.40v but it wouldnt boot so i would really appreciate your help, i'd just like to see the difference in the step up.Thanks to those that can help Chris Howard

Thanks to those that can helpwhat volts are you at now to be stable at 4.5, what llc do you use and how much v droop do you have?I went from 4.8 to 4.6 to find my sweet spot as I hit voltage wall abnove 4.7 making the 1 fps difference not worth the added voltage required possibly prematurely degrading my little chip. I have a weak chip though. Will do 4.6 at 1.35, for 4.8 I needed 1.39+ to be stable. not worth it for me, as mine seems good at 4.6 for my use 24/7. Each chip is different. These chips do have voltage walls, based to find yours and stay within it. I am on a ud5 b3 2600k ht off.If you are having trouble with 4.8 1.40 being bootable then you maybe pushing too far. What are your volts currently? Simon

From what you said it doesnt seem worth it although i might try push it to 4.6 @1.35 to see what happens. Thanks for the advice mate Chris Howard

Thanks for the advice mateMake sure HT off as mine needed more vcore to be stable with it on and did not help in the sim being enabled. We are on similar voltages at similar frequency, mine works well at 4.6 at 1.355 vcore, on llc 1, needs much more vcore as i said above to get to 4.7+ with little performance increase to 'risk' the 1.38vcore+ needed. Shite chip, but hey I am happy with it rock stable at 4.6, so don't want to hurt the little guys feelings! hehe:)That's funny, just noticed we live in the same city, have the same cpu, same gpu, same mb for the most part, same memory, same psu, same voltage and frequency settings for the most part..small world! May 21, 201115 yr Ha ha, might even live on the same street, well as long as we dont have the same woman! :Just Kidding: Like you said small world though!Lol!! Mine is here now, so unless you are invisable, then we should be ok!!I doubt you will see much difference going to 4.8. You can prob get a nice 4.6 oc out of it. 4.6-4.8 very small difference in pref in my set-up, config, and add-ons which appear simialr to yours. Simon

Thanks again for your help, i appreciate it Chris Howard
May 21, 201115 yr LOL!!You might get more mileage out of using llc 2 or higher trying to push the oc. check extream systems ud7 discussion thread about bios updates and llc, those items seem to really help acheive a max stable oc. You may have a wall similar to mine though, we have got at the same place; I got mine at yoyotech on t court road. Simon
May 21, 201115 yr Thats three of us then. I go to YoYoTech all the time. About fifty minutes away from me door to door. I'm on the Asus board. Runs 1.365 offset for 4.7Ghz HT on. 4.8 is just under 1.4V. 5Ghz HT off is about 1.45V. The difference is about 1 FPS so I stick with 4.7 Ghz. GPU overclock has more effect. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
May 21, 201115 yr Well if we all have the same women that would be scarey! lolYea, I like yoyotech; I work around there so always good to pop in. I got my parts there this time around. Not a bad place.True, I got my 580 evga sc at 850 mhz and I did notice a nice p/up from stock. Simon
May 21, 201115 yr Author Well boys that would have been my next question, overclocking the 580, not sure if i should be asking here though i might have to start a new thread in the gpu sectionJust realised DescendDescend name is Howard, thats my surname, getting weirder!!!!!!!!:Worried: Chris Howard

I have seen a mild, meaning mild boost in fps. I would start with the specs for a factory mild oc from evga sc for example. Use msi afterburner or invida inspector to enter those and move up from there. Test gpu in occt to make sure stable and not too hot using a montioring program. Do you use the ******* bp=0 tweak? That gave me a massive boost in perf and helped with the dx9 aa and sampling inspector settings tabs started here:http://forum.avsim.n...f-all-settings/My sweet spot seems to be850 mhz 4096 mem speed (2048) 1700 shader. This is a nice mild oc. This is on stock voltage, which should get you near 900 mhz. I am not the best at ocing these, but it is very easy and there are lots of guides out there.Make sure you use the 270.xx or the 275.xx for best current drivers, both sets have helped pref slightly on my rig. Simon
May 21, 201115 yr Author Well cheers Simon, i have followed everything you said and all is well, i'm going to fire up fsx now and give it a test,Thanks again for your help :Applause: Chris Howard
May 21, 201115 yr No worries. Getting out to the enjoy the weather a bit now. Another nice one out there, pay back for the three months of sun is going to be a ######! Simon
