It's for FSX. All you do is back up files (done) clean drive and then drop files back to revodrive. I doubt that I'll ever have to do t. Unless it dies on me.RevoDrive288RevoBenchMark.jpgSSD293SSDBenchMark.jpgWin7813Win7BenchMark.jpg

Great post Corey! However, I think there are a few misconceptions in some of the followup. balance - the word gets thrown around a lot. Dazz asks - balance for what? balancing the parts of the system. Balancing the components - perhaps balance is not the right word - using parts of equal performance. Let's face it, if you're running a P4 3.4 with slow memory timings and you throw in a GTX580 - you are NOT going to get results worth the expense. Chances are a GTS8800 would function better because it's more in line with the other hardware. Also, in fairness to NickN, he has stated that his guides are meant to get an overall good experience out of the software and hardware but that is subjective and is just a starting point. if one follows the guide, they at least have a solid and common base to start further tweaking from. That's the balance he's talking about. it will be different for different systems but the idea is to get comparable parts and settings. One other thing comes to mind about Nick's "grumpy" attitude. It's not so much someone arguing with him with a reasoned view but those that are just parroting something the read without any justification other than "so & so said it doesn't matter".Usually, with computers, there is often more than one way to approach any problem - all I see with Nick is his attempt to level the starting point so we're not comparing apples to oranges.Vic

Good post Corey, very professional.I will say this, had it not been for Nick I would not have had a clue about computers and he has helped me immensely on many occasions and for that I am eternally grateful.I will also say that Nick is not always right, however I never known his advices to be damaging or detrimental in anyway.I also understand Nick’s frustration at times and I myself have sometimes been short and intolerant of others especially when I could soundly disprove with fact and demonstration or reference that the other person was possibly incorrect. However it has been rare if ever I was rude or indignant towards those of opposing opinion. I have never expected anybody to accept me at my word as none of you know me. I also am not always prepared or willing because I work for a living and I am tired or busy, to demonstrate or argue a point that I have made. In these cases believe me or not I abdicate. If I am annoyed I simply will not respond and I always try to be professional and courteous in my responses (although not always successful). When I am wrong I appreciate when you can explain or demonstrate to me why I am wrong, I too am arrogant but I still understand fact and the numbers do not lie. Please do not just expect me to believe you on your word, no disrespect for what you may know or who you are but simply I believe that most things electronic can be substantiated and proven in theory or by practical test.At the end of the day I think we get too caught up in the art of finer bench marks and spend far too little time actually flying. You could buy any modern computer off the shelf today and the improvements in that computer would be leaps and bounds better performance than anything was out when FSX was released.I enjoy the communication with you guys especially most of you that have participated in this thread. I find you all to be gentlemen and working very hard to prove factually that which is perceived by others.I will say for the record Nick’s reference that I have other ideas about drive tests that I think what he is referencing is a statement that I made that I am unable to demonstrate a reduction in CPU cycles or HDD latency by using a 3Ware Card. It is true, I can’t, I do not know if it is due to the SB motherboard, HDD that I have now but with my current spec nada. Maybe the old 775 or 1366 socket seen a measurable difference probably did when Nick recommended it. Would I recommend anybody today on a similar setup run out and by a $400 card…no way. We never know what sorrows or tribulations face another person or how that person will react to those stresses. Compassion is always preferred to retribution.Sometimes we take this stuff too serious. Live long and prosper; best accomplished by not drinking the cool-aid.
