REX 2.0 questions

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing the REX Add-on for FSX and have some questions. First of all does REX enhance the whole games overall graphics? I am currently using the GeForce 9200 graphics card. Secondly does REX keep frame rates up? The last thing I need is lag. And finally does REX work with Airport Add-ons like KDFW from FSdreamteam? I know REX can Change Tarmac textures and that's why I'm asking. Thanks, Stormpilot

Hello Stormpilot747 I just got REX 2.0 and I love it! Its one of the best addons you can get for FSX- bar none! A most have. First off REX only updates your Sky, Clouds, All water (Inland, Ocean, Tropical), Runways & Taxiways, Airport Environments (Parking), Sun & Light and Wave animations textures only. It will not update all other textures like ground etc.Secondly does REX keep frame rates up? Yes and no - It depends on your system- if you can runs FSX smoothly now you will not have any problems with it.And finally does REX work with Airport Add-ons like KDFW from FSdreamteam? Sorry but I can't answer that one for you, but I don't see why it should'tHope that helps - I think you would like it - if just for the nice clouds and sky textures.

I've installed REX (prior to all the FSDT airports) and I'm 99.9% certain that REX would only effect a change were an airport using stock textures. My KDFW includes all of the stellar FSDT ground effects, if that's what you're thinking about.

All your doing is replacing the default sky, water, cloud, and some other misc textures. You dont need to change anything in the FSX scenery settings to take advantage of it. The only thing I would be careful of is using the REX runway/taxiway/landing lights becuase those can make a difference with other addons. Personally, I left all the light options unchecked when I did mine, but you can make a backup of all your stock textures before you being anyway, so if you dont like something or something like the REX halo's messes with another of your addons you can always revert to your backup.Word of caution if you want to either keep or gain some FPS. Used the 1024 resolution clouds in the DXT format. If you dont check the DXT box and use 32 bit clouds, especially ones bigger than 1024 like the 2048's or 4096 you could be in for some performance loss. I've been using the 1024 DXT's for years know and love the look as well as the performance of them. In a way the higher def sets almost look too sharp for my taste plus them consume more overhead. There is no "official" option for it, but I have picked up some performance by converting the water animations to DXT also since they come in 32bit only and seemed to cause me some stutters when flying over water. Good luck and enjoy REX.
