would I see if I bought lower memory

Featured Replies

currently running a 908 x overclocked to 4.4 ghz and rock solid, passed all stress test. Now Iplan on upgrading my gtx285 card to a 580 gtx which I know would also help. but here comes the kicker,I am running corsair memory at 5 gigs 1600mhz, at 9,9,9,9, 24 at 150 dimm voltage. Now I realize fully these are loose timing and manufacture suggestions, now lets says I bought 1600mhz at 6gigs 165 diim voltage running at 6,7,6 18 would this really help. because right now my computer is running the best it has. The video card I am definitely buying. all advise welcomed.meant 6 gig

You have a 980X right, 908 is a typo?Get the card first and see how much better FSX run.As far as memory, 1600MHz @ 6-7-6-18 is better compare to 9-9-9-24 for sure, I remember telling Spiritflyers (old thread on FTX forums) to get rams (1600MHz) with a lower timing from what he had and he saw a difference right away, in FSX faster usually = better.

Try overclocking your memory before dropping money on new memory. Raise the voltage to 1.65 and I bet you can get 1600 7-8-7-24.

How much better will 6-7-6-18 run compare to what you have always depend on how well your PC is balanced bios wise with your hardware, you should see some improvement anyway, lets make something clear about rams voltage....unless you are overclocking them you should always run them at manuf. rated voltage and cas and MHz, period, if the rams are rated at 1.65v don't try to run them at 1.6v or 1.5v, they may work at lower voltage but you may get BSOD for no reason thinking you need more core voltage on the CPU, if they are rated at 1.5v no problem runnunig them at 1.5v or 1.65v if they are rated at 1.65v.You MAY need to raise the rams voltage rated at 1.5v or 1.65v one notch ot two anyway since you are overclocking your CPU if your rig is not stable, overclocking on different mobo with different hardware will always require some adjustment here and there, you just need to be patient when overclocking as this is not an exact science. If you can put your hands on some 1600MHz at 6-7-6-18 buy them because they are hard to find, you can't buy 2000MHz at 7-7-7-21 like the one I have right now as they don't make them anymore.Good luck.

Man your right on that one. I was looking at some G-Skill 1600MHz at 6-7-6-18 at Newegg.com last week - now they are gone - no out of stock, nothing, just gone
