CG OUT OF LIMIT

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, new here!Flying a fictional flight SAEZ-SBGR with MD11, prepared the bird with 60000lbs of fuel. After all, got a TOCG of 31.3 and a ZFWCG 27,8. All inside the limits, though TOGW limiar.Well, took off greately, but soon, still during SID the ambar message CG OUT OF LIMIT appeared. There is fuel only in tanks 1, 2, 3. Aux and tail tanks are empty.Have two questions:1) How to deal with this issue in flight?2) How to prevent this issue in next flight plannings?Sorry for eventually bad english. Thanks for any help!Fernando Santos SSTO.

Hi,Did you have load with you?If not you might have to take balast fuel with you. I don't know how to plan this fuel. Might you find something in the manual. Best regardsJonathan

A ZFWCOG of 27.8 is too far back for me, I'd want to start somewhere around the 20-24 mark. I think this is your main problem. To answer your questions:1) With the amount of fuel you've got you can't fix it. You need balast fuel as Jonathan mentions.2) You need to load the aircraft correctly through the Load Manager to get a ZFWCOG closer to the figure above. However, it's also SOP for me to start with 7,000kg of fuel (pretty minimal) and use the MDCU refueler to load the fuel as this way you'll get the correct distribution.

Hello, captains,After having frozen the flight for a while, thinking what to do, I decided to proceed the flight that way, to see what happens. Have been monitoring the CG via SD-Fuel page for twenty minutes, and it has been growing to 31.7, when a message SET FUEL TO MANUAL appeared. Then, intuitively, I changed the system to manual and turned on TRANS switches in the tanks 1 and 3, after the FILL switch in the tank 2, then... the fuel started to be transferred from wing tanks to central tank. In 5 minutes, the CG decreased to 30.3 or something, i returned the fuel system to AUTO and could proceed my flight with no other issue.Don't know if this is what you, guys, meant with "ballast fuel", but the fact is that it has worked, without any add of fuel, only managing the distribution of what I had loaded. Finally, noted down the tip about ZFWCG, will take care next time.Best regards to you, Jonathan and Tigh!Fernando Santos (SSTO).

When you've entered the fuel go to the init page, press next page (weight init)and on the top right press R1. It will automaticly set your CG's. On the next flight without reboot you have to put in yje numbers yourself which, as mentioned before, can easily be done with the loadmanager.Reg,John

By doing this, it will automatically distribute fuel among the tanks to keep CG inside the limits during all the flight? Thanks for your comment and help!

I'm glad you sorted out your problem. However I just thought i'd add something to the mix. I too had the same problem and I resolved it by switching the fuel from auto to manual and back to auto. I do not know why this worked but it does and i've also had that problem more than once and it worked on both occasions. Maybe someone could explain? Ta.

In auto yes.@kkkk No idea :(

I've never totted it up but I think I've got near a 1,000 (virtual) hours on the PMDG MD11 and I've never had to do anything with fuel (apart from put some in :( ). There's a simple solution to all these worries. Load the aircraft properly through the load manager and then use the MCDU to fuel the aircraft.

use the MCDU to fuel the aircraft.
Hi, guys, me again,I've been reading the manuals a lot about this issue (have a little free time to do it), and must post something next few days summing up the many things i've learned. But, definitly, using the MCDU tu fuel the aircraft, and not only the load manager (don't laugh about my newbieness), is the core of the question.Best regards for posts and comments,
