Auto overclocking?

Featured Replies

Hi folks!First of all, im pretty average in computer skills. Dont know enough about pc`s, but I know more than my dad. Anyways, just had a weird incidentwhich freaked me out, because I dont want to wreck my newly buildt computer. Yesterday I turned it on, did some FSX, surfing, registry cleaning etcand turned off before I went to bed. Nothing unusual. As it was turning off Win7 was installing some updates. Today, however, I came in here to boot it up again. What happened next was, for me, very strange. It made several attemptsat booting, but before the boot screen even came up, the computer rebooted itself two or three times over, and I figured something was wrong. Finally the main bootscreen was shown and at the bottom was a message for me saying : "overclocking failed. Press F1 for BIOS"Overclocking FAILED!!!??? WHAT! I never told that stupid computer to overclock itself in the first place, so this puzzles me. May it be anauto-tuning function with the Asus AI Suite thats causing it to overclock whenever it boots up?

Well, it´s best not to use the auto overclocking function. I did use it also at the beginning and was thought very quickly that this sin´t the best setting. The CPU will get too much volts and therefore denaturalize more quickly. Just surf the net for some OC guides. There many out there and with this new BIOS it is really easy to get an stable oc.

Best regards, Steffen

Thanks for the reply. Youre not the first one telling me the auto oc is a bad thing, and so it really seems. I`ve read through some guides, but the failed booting today still puzzles me.

That's happened to me on my gigabyte board. I shutdown down windows and it froze in the sense that it stayed on the blue shutdown screen for like 3 minutes. I decided to reset my rig and it said there had been an overclocking error (something along those lines). Although I do have my chip overclocked, I had it set at default clocks that day, so I too was puzzled.

And I'll guess you have an ASUS P8P67. The board likes doing that if not set up really correctly (I have it).2nd, newest BIOS update is very much recommended.Turning on in BIOS "Power on by PCIE" is going to help too (it's under APM).And auto tuning and Asus Suite sucks BADLY.Uninstall all Asus crap, and please either don't do any overclocking or read some guides and try yourself. It's really not harder than using registry cleaner or doing updates. If you decide to do it, here's some help:http://www.overclock.net/intel-general/910467-ultimate-sandy-bridge-oc-guide-p67a.htmlhttp://www.techreaction.net/2011/01/04/3-step-overclocking-guide-%E2%80%93-sandy-bridge-v0-1beta/Ask here if something unclear, there are many people who can help you here.Good luck!
