July 18, 201114 yr I have recently bought Captain Sims Weather radar, i installed it ( the activation code worked fine), i then installed it and opened the adding screen, added it to the aircrafts (even by running as administrator) started playing FSX using the aircraft with the radar and clicked run when the window poped up and then opened it in the instrument panel on view tab and a black boxs shows, around the same size i expect the radar to be but its just pure black, it is the same for all the aircrafts i added it to. i have tried reinstalling the radar but still not luck im not to do next any suggestions??
July 20, 201114 yr I didn't use the installer, instead I did it manually and so I can't say much about the installer. Make sure "WXR.dll" exists in your gauges folder. Your panel.cfg should have the line "WindowXX=CS Weather Radar" at the top and"//--------------------------------------------------------[WindowXX]Background_color=1,1,1 size_mm=525,386position=2visible=0ident=11223window_size= 0.180, 0.240window_pos= 0.000, 0.650zorder=1gauge00=WXR!wr_display, 81,32,364,279gauge01=Captain_Sim.r001.P04!P04_radar, 0,0,525,386"That should be all you need. Once you start FSX and load the plane you installed it in, it should ask you if it's OK to run the weather radar. If you answer yes, it will put something like this in your aircraft.cfg file: "E:\FSX\GAUGES\WXR.DLL.woatqkhtnkkbaeawkqlwonqqabehaetllonntenw=2".That should be all it takes. Works fine here.Good luck,Dolph98
July 20, 201114 yr Don't want to hijack the topic but how accurate is CaptainSim's WX radar?I implemented it in iFly 737NG (Thx to fellow AVsimmer Cpt. Michael, who discovered the workaround) to work together with REX Weather but have the feeling that it is more a cosmetic gimmick. The thunderstorm clouds are all around the place but the WX radar shows clouds in the flightpath where the sky is clear...Turning the radar beam Up or Down is not solving the issue...Anyone?Happy landings...
July 20, 201114 yr Try adjusting the Gain knob. I have not played around much with the CS Radar but in real life, if you turn the gain knob way up, you'll get precip showing where there is none. Dave Creed
July 20, 201114 yr Don't want to hijack the topic but how accurate is CaptainSim's WX radar?I've tried a number of different weather radars in FSX (RXP and Captain Sim stand-alone radar addons, radars in Leonardo Maddog, Carenado Grand Caravan, some of the Feelthere planes have them too IIRC), but I have yet to see one where the radar display actually reflects the weather on my route with any degree of accuracy. My understanding is that this is not so much the fault of the gauge programmers, but a limitation of the sim itself - the precipitation information simply isn't available. July 20, 201114 yr I played with it when I first got it and I'm satisfied that if you adjust the gain and the antenna tilt angle correctly, it depicts the weather alright. As has been said, there are limitations with FSX itself but I believe it was worth the nine bucks I paid for it. I looked at the real weather on the 'net, started ASE and FSX, then put my plane where there were weather fronts. Once everything was loaded and ready I slewed around at various altitudes and directions. After fiddling with the controls, the weather on the CS Wx did in fact change and gave a reasonable picture of what was out there.Having worked for a company that made a Wx system and flight testing it during development, I think that the CS product is a decent simulation of that RL system. Definitely good enough for FSX use. You have to get good at adjusting the gain and tilt to use it properly, so the manual ain't lyin' when it says that.Dolph
