December 19, 200322 yr I thought this might be a fun topic. Do you have any airport scenery installed that you never or hardly ever fly to and from?I havent had FS2004 that long so I don't have alot of scenery installed yet, but I do have a scenery I installed that I really don't plan on flying to alot and that is the freeware scenery of Hong Kong (VHHH) made by Thomas Kwong. I have this scenery mainly because I figured if I have better airport scenery around the world I would see more AI planes in places that I do fly. (North America and Europe)
December 19, 200322 yr Pretty much all of it! :(I'm alot better than I used to be about downloading massive amounts of stuff and never "visiting" or "flying" it. If Emma Field was 100% in FS9, I'd be there alot more. But there are alot of freeware developers making great stuff; it's just that there's not much in the area I do most of my casual flying (VA, TN and Carolina's). I'm working on a photoreal area around a small airfield near to me; but who knows if/when I'll get it done...
December 19, 200322 yr Since I mainly fly the PMDG B737NG, most of my flying is now around Europe. When I installed FS9, I haven't bothered transfering some of my Sim-Flyers scenery's arcoss, so I now don't fly to places like KDFW and other US destinations. If a long-range airliner comes along to the standard of PMDG's B737, I may make some long-haul trips across the pond (Well, when they release their B744 :-) ) Alaister Kay
December 20, 200322 yr I put in the Dorval Montreal scenery last summer, flew into and out of it once. Changed the season to winter, flew into andout of it once. Haven't been back. I will go back there on my around the continent trip sometime next spring. Right now I'm still in Alaska - Attu to St Paul Island in the Pribilofs. Canada again in a few weeks it looks like. I have many Gigabytes of scenery but not much loaded except for where I am headed over the next few days...
December 20, 200322 yr Since like 90% of all flights I do are based in Northern/Mid Indiana, I really do not get out much :). Lets see, I have 400MB of mesh and 200MB of scenery that I rarely fly into (ouch) :-lol. Its all good scenery, just I have no clue where I am going. Its pretty bad when I have almost all of Europe and all of Japan covered in new high res mesh (and rarely fly into it), but theres none for Indiana :-lol.
December 20, 200322 yr So far two complete trips around the world. On a trip around the periphary of the USA at the moment. --However, should Emma Field become 100% in Fs9, I'd be there alot more also. Not to mention designing more near Emma scenery again. That was fun. Well, at least for me. Frenchy -- out.
December 20, 200322 yr im not a big scenery downloader.. If i get it its because its supposed to be very good, or its a place i visit alot.. if not the default is good enough for me. i spend most my time and HD space on different planes and paints
December 20, 200322 yr I bought Simflyer's Rome LIRF and Atlanta KATL and find I hardly ever fly to either. On the flip side, I fly into Philly, Charlotte and Boston quite often.
December 20, 200322 yr Alaister,You can fly the PMDG 737 from either Boston, NYC or Toronto and go to the UK with no refueling. You can also fly it from almost anyhwere on the east coast of the US or the US midwest to Iceland and then on to all of Europe. I plan to make the KBOS to EGLL trip right after the holidays. There are many combinations to fly the 737 to anyplace in the world. Just a fun plane to fly.CheersBob Johnson
December 20, 200322 yr You ae missing out on the 'fun'(?) of Innsbruck approach, and stuff like Maderia runway all in default scenery. With AI on full arriving at Heathrow or other major European airports like Amsterdam is to say the least challenging. Just wait your turn!!I personally fly round the world in the 737 folloing news stories and picking where I am going to from them. I plot how to get to these news areas from wherever I currently am. This can generate stuff like Dallas to Nigerian strip airports with no ILS!reagrds,
December 20, 200322 yr I've used a few add-ons and as I fly on business to Las Vegas a few times a year I've used the fantastic add-on from SimFlyers. However, there are loads of excellent airfields within the default scenery. I fly to Phoenix regularly in the real world and the default is bloody good -excellent in fact. Also, Princess Juliana in St Maarten is a great place to fly especially if you have upgraded your water textures as indicated elsewhere in this forum. Great for island hopping. Over in the airliners.net site there are thousands of photos and, in particular, a lot of some very low approaches by Air France to an island where the aircraft just about clear the beach - I was wondering if these were taken at Princess Juliana? Anyway, just my 10p worth (we don't do cents here in UK!!)KFD:)
December 20, 200322 yr Yes, that is Princess Juliana in the photos. If you look closely, you will see that Microsoft even included the "warning" sign about low approaching aircraft.
December 20, 200322 yr What a loaded (but fun) question. :-) I have quite a lot of different sceneries installed -- I'm a scenery "junkie" but yes, there are several I have installed that I never get back to after installing. I had a couple of small sceneries (without any Nav frequencies or start up point in the sim) that I could never even FIND once I installed them! :-hah I've spent the last few months flying the helos exclusively. Before that it was strictly bush flying. So my aircraft are all single engine, fixed wing or the helos. I forced myself to limit my scenery downloads to the Pacific Northwest/Canada; Hawaii; Oceania (Oz, Taz, etc.); and the Caribbean. I even disabled huge chunks of the world in my Scenery Library (FS2002), knowing I would never go there. Once in a while though I do browse through my scenery addon folders to refresh my memory about what I have installed. That usually triggers a desire to go visit a certain location.-Lindy :-rotor :-wave Happy Holidays, everyone
