hey all heres the problem fsx with pmdg 747 rex and orbx australia and orbx YBCS CAIRNS INTL is only giving me around 13-16 fps is this normal or is there a problem somewhere?i have a fps limiter by bojote and the fsx venetubo tweak and still not getting good performancefsx is on its on dedicated drive and is defragged frequently

First of all, 14 - 16 fps in a framerate heavy airport/environment with a framerate heavy aircraft, isn't that bad. It's still flyable.Start by turning down you autogen to very dense or otherwise dense. Extremely Dense is Extremely hard on the fps. Next, set your water to Low 2.x. Do you have AI traffic installed? Also, what are your traffic settings? Road and water traffic can eat up a lot of fps. For road traffic, I recommend not going above 15%. Water traffic, stay at or below 10%.Last but not least; what's your cloud drawing distance set at? Set at 50nm. Realise yourself that every mile more, the number of clouds grow exponentialy and so does the fps impact.A very good and comprehensive setup guide by NickN (dev of Ground Environment X) can be found here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.htmlIt helps you understand what's important to do in FSX and what not.EDIT: These are my settings, which give me in the same scenerio an average of 22fps.You'll notice, I have no aircraft AI traffic set in FSX. I use UT2 for this, which is set at 50%.Hope this helps.

Tam210,On top of what Frank said, ORBX mid to large sized airports are known to be more taxing than similar style airports by other developers like FSDT or FlyTampa for example. You can always try unchecking some of the stuff from the YBCS Control Panel to gain some FPS back. Also, since your using REX, install the DXT clouds rather then the 32bit versions if you haven't already, that will help with performance. Also try the 1024's over the 2048 or 4096's since they will still look great and wont require so much overhead when flying complex a/c into FPS heavy area's.Lastly, the PMDG 747 has a tuning menu if you weren't aware of it. From it you can adjust some parameters so that you can gain some FPS back without really loosing anything noticable. More info on it is in the PDF that came with the 747.Once you get all those things squared away plus the stuff Frank mentioned you should have no problems. A few weeks ago I posted some pics on the ORBX forum of me flying the PMDG 747 into YBBN with about 26 FPS in the VC and 30 to 35 FPS from the exterior locked spot view and I have a lot worse computer that the new rig you've got, so you shouldn't have any problems.
