July 26, 201114 yr In preparation of the release, I've been given permission to build a computer and will be ordering parts tonight. I'm ordering the i7 2600k sandybridge with the Asus P8Z68 mobo and the GTX570.My question is this....how in the world do I start overclocking this processor and where should I stop at? I've read some places that its a simple as a couple clicks in the mobo software and other places its gonna be a walk through the bios. If anyone can give me a idea on where/how to do all this I would much appreciate it. I am hoping to get 4ghz out of this but then I've seen others get 4.5. Any help would be grateful!A few points. ....Don't change numbers and hope for the best, try and do it in a methodical way, step by step, building the speed up slowly. It can take time but this way should help you see how the autovoltage control works and give you a feeling on how your system is performing.- Let your system run a day at stock to be sure everything is good. - Download CPUZ to monitor what the CPU is doing, Coretemp to monitor the temps and load in each core, Prime95 to stress the CPU and SuperPi to measure the performance of the CPU.- Run all of these together at stock speed and check temps are stable etc- In BIOS, go into advanced mode, switch of HT if it's a 2600k, switch Turbo mode off, set memory speed to factory settings (voltage also, most 1155 MB's prefer 1.5v memory so try that even if it's rates higher), set BCLK to 100 (never set this higher). Leave CPU voltage control and LLC calibration in auto for now.- Set the multiplier up a few steps, to 38, run the 4 programs again and monitor temps and voltages for around an hour. Step up again to 40 and repeat etc etc. Aim is to keep temps around 80 deg C max and CPU vcore under 1.4v Limit will be around 4.5 - 4.8ghz. After each step, run SuperPi and calculate Pi to 1M and see how long it takes, this is a neat programme that shows how fast your CPU is workings, you should be able to see what percentage your CPU is faster between stock and overclock speeds. and finally, if it goes ** up....don't blame me!! -Iain Watson-

July 26, 201114 yr Hey Shane, what did you do for cfg tweaks? Do you have a link? It's my next step that I need to do.Thanks!Rick, Rainbow Lake huh? Very cool I love that areaThis is single handedly the most important step in getting FSX where you want it to be, it takes all the guess work out of tweaking for FSX.CFG for your setup. http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html Run that, save your .cfg. then google search FPS_Limiter 0.2 and set the FSX internal to uniimited, and set the FPS limiter program in the 25-40ish area (mines at 40) . Make sure all your sliders in the FSX menus are all the way right. Only thing left to do is make sure you edit the LOD_RADIUS from 4.5 to what ever you feel is confortable (This reduces blurry scenery textures, I have mine set at 8.0 with a GTX550Ti and works great with sceneries such as ORBX). This will always change back to 4.5 anytime you go into display options within the sim, so make sure everything is all the way right before editing LOD_RADIUS.Overclocking will take less of a priority once this is done with your system :) Enjoy Shane Walker CYYC - CARS 705 Flight Dispatcher I7-2600K @ 3.4GHZ - 8GB RAM - GTX10606GB - W10 - P3DV4.1 - ACTIVESKY - REX4 + SOFT CLOUDS - EZCA2 - ORBX - FLIGHTBEAM - FSDREAMTEAM -FLYTAMPA - SIMADDONS - AEROSOFT CRJ - PMDG -737/777/747 - TOPCAT + PFPX

Wanna switch, you can come up here, I will head down to Calgary hahahahahaha I ran that from the link you gave me, it did all the tweaks. I tried rigging up that FPS_Limiter program, and I can't get it to run that .jar file, it just opens it up with WINRAR, so I gave up on it.Thanks though! Rick Butler Rainbow Lake Alberta, Canada

This generates the GUI interface you see above. From there, just navigate to FSX.exe and the GUI will create a batch file to run FPS_Limiter and autoexecute FSX.exe. From there, you're good to go! Try to google your question and without a doubt you will find a very good overclocking guide for you specific processor.I hope you didn't install a stock cooler?Best Regards,Bert Van Bulck
