July 28, 201114 yr I was reading this article and was wondering how this guy ended up in the water for so long without a Search & Rescue. Not sure if he filed a flight plan but apparantly he did make a Mayday Call. Anyone have any other information on this story? He is lucky to be alive:http://www.stuff.co....water-for-17hrs Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
July 29, 201114 yr A CNN Video with the pilot interview here. Would have been in the wator a lot less if he had carried an ELT along (and also a life vest, as flying over water). Would not even have gotten wet if he hadn't deferred turning on Carb Heat until it was too late (engine RPM recovered just before hitting the water). Cheers, - jahman.
July 29, 201114 yr Author Thanks Jahman. Looks like a hard lesson learned on his part. He is very lucky to be alive. Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
July 29, 201114 yr I also wonder about the decision to fly significantly further than glide distance from shore when you are in a single engine plane. Very lucky it happened in a very hot July, almost any other time of year and he would have died of hypothermia. Mark. Mark CYYZ
