Restoring Default FSX Airports

Featured Replies

Hello all, I'm new to the site, and this is my first post. The main reason I decided to become a member is because I discovered a pretty frustrating problem with the simulator, and no other posts seemed to answer it exactly. So I got a freeware scenery update for TNCM airport (I believe from the AVSIM library files) and installed it, and I was VERY pleased with the results. However, I realized that since it included a complete new layout of the terminal and taxiways, it was impossible to fly multiplayer there without the dreaded "ejection." So I decided to delete the scenery. I went to the (Settings/Scenery Library), clicked on the "tncm," and deleted it. I go back in, and my heart sinks. Only a few parts of the scenery went away (the terminal disapeared, the layout was restored, and a few trees left). But the old terminal is still missing, along with the old vehicles and terrain! My question is: does anyone know how to completely restore a particular scenery without the whole reintallation process (if there is one)? Thanks!

If you deleted it in the Scenery Library (or disabled the scenery), the default scenery will be brought back. There is no need to delete the scenery from your hard drive or FSX directory if the scenery has been disabled or "deleted". If the scenery is sitting in your Addon Scenery folder though, that folder is still active in your scenery library and that may be what is causing you your issue. So, go into your Addon Scenery folder on your hard drive and manually delete TNCM or whatever the folder created was called. Best regards,Jim

Unfortunately, that didn't work. I guess I missed the "enabled column" when I was getting rid of the scenery in the first place, and simply clicked "delete scenery." Do you know if redownloading the same scenery and then disabling it will work? Thanks, Matt

Reinstall, but do so to a ..\Temp folder so you can SEE what files were installed, and where. Use that knowledge to find all of the files installed and delete them.

Unchecking the scenery disables the scenery. There is no disable/enable column. Fr. Bill has an excellent suggestion. You can also disable the AddonScenery in the Scenery Library and see if that fixes the problem. If so, the TNCM file causing the problem is in that folder in the main FSX directory. Best regards,Jim

Just checked the TNCM readme in the AVSIM Library and it states the following: -copy/paste the entire folder "TNCM" in your .../microsoft flight simulator x/addon scenery folder-start fsx and activate the scenery in the option menuSo check your main FSX directory and then inside the AddonScenery folder and delete the TNCM file. Best regards,Jim

Again, unfortunately that didn't work either. The folder is completely deleted from my directories, and the problem is still there. I'm going to try a complete uninstall of FSX and try reinstalling, PRAYING for it to work of course! Of all the airports, why did it have to be TNCM? I mean, seriously! Also, when I first tried deleting it in the FSX Settings/Scenery Library, I experienced the dreaded CTD syndrome. That may have caused it to not completely restore the deafults. It's anyone's guess. So, I'll try the uninstall/reinstall process, and let you guys know if it works. Thanks for the help! Regards, Matt

"I went to the (Settings/Scenery Library), clicked on the "tncm," and deleted it." My guess is that you somehow deleted the default St. Maarten! Whistle.gif

ALLELUIA... After nearly three hours of uninstalling, reinstalling, and redoing all my key mappings, I checked TNCM and found it back to its old, default self. Finally! Now to re-add my repaints to the cfg's, oh boy. And I agree, PFL, I believe I somehow managed to mess up my defaults when I deleted it! Well, lesson learned, and I'm sticking with the default airports for a while. Thanks again, Matt

Matt, glad you're back up and running but for future reference you could have just run a repair of FSX instead of uninstalling/reinstalling - much less time consuming.

Thanks irocx, yeah, I was leaning toward doing a repair and saving a LOT of time, but figured that if I really did mess up my default scenery it would be better to reinstall it once, rather than having to do it twice if the repair didn't work. Whew.gif
