Memory for fsx

Featured Replies

Hi Gents, Just need to know something about memory use with FSX.I have Win 7 64 bit installed.Added HIGHMEM to the FSX cfg file. If I add 3 x 4 GB of ram, will FSX be able to utilize most of it ???(ofcourse after Win 7 and other apps take a chunk of memeory first) Cheers, Rick

If you open the task manager while running FSX + a couple of heavy add ons you will notice that it never goes beyond 3.0 GB, therefore 4GB are much more than enough on a 64 bit OS.

Yes FSX will only use upto 4Gb of RAM, but the rest of your programs and OS running at the same time can use anything above 4 that you may have installed. So no 4 Gb is not more than enough RAM for FSX as Mark says, please do not spread misinformation.

Cheers, Andy.

Just open the task manager while running FSX, that is not an opinion, that's a fact easy to check by everyone. I would add that the rusty-dusty ancient FSX engine uses only around 10% to 25% of GPU.....easy to check with an ATI GPU and memory load monitor software working in real time while a game is running. ( ATI cards of course ) Jus test it yourself, if you do not trust software data......well, I am Elvis Presley.

FSX itself will not use more than somewhere between 3-4 GB, but I can easily exceed 4GB total system memory usage running FSX plus a couple other apps (browser and Aivlasoft EFB in this case). 6-8GB would probably be a good memory size for most FSX users.

I would encourage you to remember that a W7 64 properly set do not overtake 850 MB once started. If you load garbage it could reach the double. Just set it correctly. Referring to memory usage I do not want to go on, just use the Task Manager and take your conclusions.

Define "garbage". You seem to think there is only one way to run W7 correctly - yours.

Thanks Guys. Currently I have 3 x 2 GB so I think I will stick with that for the time being. My only concern is if I use REX's HD clouds or other similar addons. Just did a clean install of Win 7 and FSX plus a few other (not so important)biggrin.png programsin prep for PMDG NGX. Very clean and fast at the moment. Thanks , Rick

Garbage ? .....Adobe Reader kicker, antivirus, windows search indexer and all the garbage stuff a user like to load...everything but the OS and its essential services. I have been working in OS fields as network admin for 15 years, I can put on the table my 2 cents. It was only a suggestion, if you prefer to buy and load 12 GB that's ok for me. I was just answering the thread starter.

Nice..

It has to be " HIGHMEMFIX=1 " For it to work guy's and it needs to go in the fsx cfg under graphicsThis will make FSX very stable, it's a must i have tried it and so many of my fello pilots too. 100% winner! :)
