August 2, 201114 yr Hello there, three years have passed since I set up my FS9 on my simming PC. Actually it is a WinXP box with SP2 and some other windows patches. Video card is a 8800GTS with 640MB, drivers are a 175.xx release. It has been connected to the internet very few times (just add-on activations), so I never executed Windows Update. Now I kindly ask if there would be any performance increase (or decrease) in applying SP3 and all the other windows patches.Video drivers are stick at 175.xx since I read many posts stating that new driver releases were useful for newer GPUs only, so I don't bothered with the new releases. Sorry if this has been asked before, a forum search led me to no useful results. Thanks in advance Stefano Piccoli
August 2, 201114 yr The only way to know for sure is to try it and find out. You may incur slight performance penalty by upgrading to SP3, I recall some tests having been run after SP3 came out that demonstrated miniscule performance losses in some applications. I think the old saying applies here, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
August 3, 201114 yr Author I think the old saying applies here, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. This is exactly the main reason because I have not upgraded anything. Just wondering if anything has been changed during these years. Stefano Piccoli
August 3, 201114 yr Hi Stefano....lower-end systems saw a bit of slowdown but more so from the .net 3.5 that gets installed after sp3. SP3 is absolutely needed for the security "fixes" that M$ wants to install to you. Please be sure to have enough memory (remember no more than 3.5gig if 32bit). Hoping For CAVU --- Chris
