August 2, 201114 yr Beautiful board. I'm just a little confused about which SATA ports to use for what....? If any owners could through some light on that I'd appreciate it. The manual is very short on 'user friendly' info. Cheers Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
August 3, 201114 yr The 4 to the left are Sata 2. Use them for DVD or Raptor drives. The two grey ones are Sata III. Use these for SSD drives. If your drive is Sata III, even faster. The two blue to the right are for a RAID set up. They can all be used for drives of any kind. MSFS
August 3, 201114 yr Author Thanks for that. Should I install the onboard graphics driver if I'm not using it? My GUESS, would be not, but... Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
August 3, 201114 yr As with any board, you can disable any device hardware and will NOT need to install the windows drivers. Familiarize yourself with the BIOS first. Look around the advanced section. You can always reload the defaults. MSFS
August 3, 201114 yr I would install it, just in case your GTX570 ever craps out, you will still be able to boot into Windows
August 3, 201114 yr Author Thanks guys All up and running now. No OC yet. Now installing all software inc FSX etc Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
August 4, 201114 yr Author Sorry, another one..... I see on this board, that AHCI is set to ON by default in the BIOS. Should this setting be on or off if NOT using any SSD I only have SATAII & III drives Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
August 4, 201114 yr In that case AHCI should be left at whatever setting it was when you installed the operating system. ON
August 4, 201114 yr Author Thanks, will leave well alone then.
