Anemic climb performance? SOLVED - WEATHER/CI

Featured Replies

I'm flying between KLAX and KOAK right now and it seems like I'm climbing slow. I wanted to cruise at FL360 but the FMC said no so I settled at FL300. But I'm not a 737 pilot, so what do I know? Here's some data: b4kFT.png Also, I'm using ASE. Does that climb rate look pretty normal?

Your cost index is way too high I think...shows as 355? That means your speed is maxed out and therefore to maintain that speed in the climb the plane has to climb slowly. Also, judging by what's left on your route versus how much fuel you have, you may have a premature end to your flight. Peace.gif

It does look normal for CI 355 and a TAT that warm. Try a lower cost index, say 25-35. CI 35 should get you a climb speed of about 300 KIAS/.76 mach, and a much higher vertical speed. Edit: BZ to Tim for being faster.

Oh right. That makes sense. Thanks.

I think a typical CI for these aircraft is more like around 15-20 IIRC, at least for the 737-300. Not 10% sure about the 800. But still 355 has got to be waaaaay out of whack.
