You can't be a cowboy in that market. You need a serious business plan, and you will need, at the very least, some sort of independent Quality Assurance and Safety oversight. (It could be someone in your organization, but try to keep them apart administratively.) You also need Configuration Management. You should seriously look into getting certified in some "continuous improvement" discipline like TQM or Six Sigma, although I personally consider them a bunch of hogwash, but the government thinks otherwise. Be conversant in Process and Methodology, too. Sorry. Takes all the fun out of it, huh?

BTW, there was an A&P that posted on a dev forum looking for a way to use FSX to 'help' teach his crew how to start various engines. To start, he basically needed a way to show people where to locate switches. He talked about procedures too - like a hot start and so on. Phew - That's 1,000 posts; only took ten years ;)
