August 8, 201114 yr Hi all, I have bought the PMDG 737NGX and heard a lot of people say that Windows 7 x64 is really needed to enjoy the 737 properly. I currently have XP x32 on my system. Does anyone know if i'll lose all my information, documents, programs etc installing Windows 7? If so, is there any way round it? Sorry about putting it in this forum, wasn't sure which one to stick it in. Thanks.
August 8, 201114 yr Sorry, but I do believe you are going to have to reload all your stuff. Take a look here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7 Joe Brown
August 9, 201114 yr There is a way to do this without losing any data. However, it is more involved. Also note, that the benefits listed with Windows 7 in regards to the NGX are more so about upgrading to 64-bit. The upgrade path I am discussing without data loss will require you stay at 32bit. If you wish to go 64bit you will need a backup drive to copy your data to, and preform a clean install of windows 7. Now, to upgrade to Windows 7 32bit from Windows XP. You need a vista disc, dont need a key. Just the disc. Insert the Disc, Upgrade XP to Vista. Choose inplace upgrade (Keep Documents and Data) After upgrade, then insert the Windows 7 disc and upgrade again. It is longer, but there is a way to upgrade with no data loss. I however, would recommend a clean install to Windows 7 64-bit.
