should I even bother?
Well, It wont help, but its cheap enough, so it gets you ready for Windows 7 / 8. I bet your ram usage hasn't passed 60% with 8Gbs.. I know mine hasn't yet, and ive run photoshop with fsx on long flights lol. I would do it and setup a ram disk for some apps.

A community-made SP3?
SP3 would be just picking up Lockeed Martins version of FSX. They did fix a lot of the code. Most addon's work with it. Give it a look, you might want to try it.http://www.prepar3d.com/

New Laptop For FSX - Are This Specs Enough
Mine runs FSX amazing. Graphics are basically maxed, with all the extras in my signature. I average 25-30 FPS. I fly the NGX and the QW757 with no issue.

Raid 0 & SSD
Harddrive: You may want to put the OS on the Raid 0 harddrives. A few benchmarks show that a single SSD is faster then 7200RPM in Raid 0, to help FSX use the SSD. Stick with Intel SSD's. The 520 Series has been well tested and will prove more reliable. The OCZ have almost a 50% fail rate over 6 months.Processor: The AMD kills the Intel in multithread, however, FSX is not multithread. If you want to save some cash, an i5-2500k w/ a Nice Heatsink will get you 4.4-4.7GHzRAM: GSkill is nice ram. You could do 8GB in a 4 x 2 setup. Then upgrade down the road to 16GB with another 4 x 2 kit. I have had Photoshop, Dreamweaver and FSX open at one time, and still had over 3GB's free out of 8GB.Motherboard: GigiaByte or ASUS z68 ChipsetPowerSupply: Corsair, Seasonic, or OCZ. Thermaltake is good, but they do not make there own PSU's often they are cheaper rebranded Seasonics.Video Card: Again, I love AMD, but with FSX, Nvidia comes out on top. Anything from a 560Ti will do great with FSX

FSX fails to start...all of the very sudden!
Another quick fix is to delete the logbook file in the Flight Simulator X folder in "My Documents". This can get corrupted for no reason and cause that very issue.

How To make it Start in Cold & Dark Status?
I think you can also just hold down the menu button on the CDU for a second or two and it will bring up the screen with no bat power. Just the FS Actions and Settings stuff, not the Nav functions. EDIT: Posted the same time as raymar... lol

Page file on or off?
Many, Many, Many views on this topic. Why is a very different matter. Mostly, people take what they heard and spin it. This is the reality of the situation. On a machine that has 4GB's of RAM you would run a page file. Running Microsoft Office can gobble up 800mb's if you have multiple documents open. Combine this with the needs of Windows and you run into a wall around 3.2GB's of Memory Use. Now, if you do run a Page File, do not let windows manage it for you. No, Windows does not know better then you. If you set it too something stupid like 100mb's then yes, please hit yourself in the head. If you run a page file with 4GB's of RAM, I would run a 1:1 ratio. When I run through server setup's I will run a 1:1 ratio. A client machine will benifit as all windows OS's are watered down server suites. If you think thats to much in a day when storage is $15 per 100GB's, well sorry. 6GB+ of RAM, axe the Page File. I have some 600 development box's running with no Page File. This is NOT for performance, there is NONE. This is only for security, as the Page File is a leak in our system. Also, it saves space if you have a large RAM Pool. So, in short, you can run no page file. There is no performance difference, I would never run a Page File on a SSD, just watch the I/O's that windows will push with a Page File even not in use. Furthermore, Do not let the system manage the page file unless you love the Idea of windows destroying your free space with fragmentation. Set it to 1:1 and forget it. Large or small the page file will not change performance, and hard drive space is cheap enough to run a page file at this ratio and call it safe for low RAM settings. Last note: If you have 6GB's+ of RAM and run any legacy programs, you will need a Page File, as the program will address itself to this location.

Does Anybody Remember the old "Flight Assignment ATP" ?
FsPassengers allows you to Rank up and add some of that experience to FSX. You cannot fly certain aircraft until you have the hours and rating to do so. I am a c(1) with 10 flight hours in FSPx lol. Stuck flying under 3300lb single props for the time being.

Run out of memory.
Well if it helps, and I'm sure it will not. I have Windows 7 64-Bit. Running the programs below, and I have not had any OOM errors, all my sliders are full right except for water. I run no Page File and have zero hard page faults. No tweaks execpt for HIGHMEMFIX. Thats it.

Could you please compare and fix this for next patch?
Cockpit is amazing. Compare this to the iFly is well, not a comparison. Just look at the backup compass just under the overhead. The iFly looks like its straight from a Default... Very poor.

How does a passenger score a jumpseat?
I truly wish I had done this before 9/11 (Stupids A'Holes). I was just getting into flight at a young 16, I remember bringing offical FAA manuals on flights to read. I would have the book on the tray table trying to act like an undercover FAA inspector. I would look at the stewardess like "Ive got my eye on you". LOL. Whaaaaat a loser. Now, I will never have that chance, but, I am starting my PPL training. So I will finally fly, just not heavy iron.

B 737NGX asking me to activate for the 2nd time
You need your full name in your signature so they can reference your purchase. With pirates lurking on the forums they don't want to help them out, and rightfully so.

Who users Windows 7 Ultimate?
Same here. Windows 7 Ultimate + those addon's. No nose down issue. Check your ASE settings.

Windows XP to Windows 7 x64
AirVan replied to Lukemeister's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcThere is a way to do this without losing any data. However, it is more involved. Also note, that the benefits listed with Windows 7 in regards to the NGX are more so about upgrading to 64-bit. The upgrade path I am discussing without data loss will require you stay at 32bit. If you wish to go 64bit you will need a backup drive to copy your data to, and preform a clean install of windows 7. Now, to upgrade to Windows 7 32bit from Windows XP. You need a vista disc, dont need a key. Just the disc. Insert the Disc, Upgrade XP to Vista. Choose inplace upgrade (Keep Documents and Data) After upgrade, then insert the Windows 7 disc and upgrade again. It is longer, but there is a way to upgrade with no data loss. I however, would recommend a clean install to Windows 7 64-bit.

New build troubleshoot
Hello Drew, I would like to ask, since you didnt not mention it (I am a stickler for details). Have installed your device drivers fully? You mentioned Video and LAN. However, I didn't see you say anything else. I have a laptop and run FSX just fine. So the need to overclock your CPU is not valid, and using the drivers from the CD should not affect a 5 year old DX9 game. Also, what are your addons for FSX. Besides the scenery you mentioned. I have a very universal FSX.cfg file that you can use with your processor and setup. See ***COPY FROM YOUR CFG FILE HERE*** below (Display and Trusted) [bufferPools]RejectThreshold=131072 Thank you everyone for your support. Now I just need to get my virtual Pilot hours up so I can buy and fly this bird in FSPX. lol.

Question: FSPassengers & NGX
Hello PMDG & Fellow Simmers, I am an avid user of FSPX, and was wondering if the payload and fuel loader in FSPX had a conflict of any sort with NGX? I I am worried about the unique fuel system PMDG has put in the NGX. Thank you for your time, Eric C.
