March 16, 201214 yr It is not uncommon for classic games to get patched/improved/modded by their fan-base well after release.Given the huge, committed and talented FSX community, the incredible range of mods and add-ons already available and considering the work that Prepar3d seem to be doing to the base app, is it not possible that an "sp3" could in theory be created to address and improve some of the core issues of the creaking FSX engine, i.e performance/stability/etc as well as add features and improve the flight model?Given that no such thing currently exists, I am assuming that it is either impossible, or nigh-on so to do this? If that is the case, is it just that no-one has access to the required source-code?Cheers Cheers! Iain
March 16, 201214 yr Pretty sure the MS lawyers would be showing up at your door. FSX is far from being a classic game where the source code is freely available. Now, if you are like Lockeed Martin and want to purchase the code I would think that MS would listen to your offer!!

Cheers! Iain
March 16, 201214 yr No, the opposite. If the EULA states that you cannot modify the source code, even on a non-profit basis, and you do, then you are heading for litigation.
March 16, 201214 yr SP3 would be just picking up Lockeed Martins version of FSX. They did fix a lot of the code. Most addon's work with it. Give it a look, you might want to try it.http://www.prepar3d.com/ Eric Cuchel FSX | UTX | GEX | REX | UT2 | ASE | FSPX | ENB HDR | VOX HP DV6T Select Edition i7-640m 3.46Ghz | 8GB DDR3 1333 | ATI 5650 1GB (625/900) | 120GB Intel 520 SSD

March 16, 201214 yr Did I read incorrectly or were I dreeeaming? I thought at one time Aerosoft was going to develop a Flight Simulator; I never heard of it anymore. Do we really have to depend on Microsoft? or can someone else (or several join forces), actually develop another Flight Simulator?

March 16, 201214 yr Author So you want someone else to bore themselves to death reading the EULA ? But it was you who started this thread. Not at all.GIven Jim's authoritative sounding replies, I was merely wanting to confirm whether or not this was information he was already party to, thus rendering my researching the EULA somewhat pointless...
