MS Flight and touch screens

Featured Replies

MS Flight will be out roughly (maybe) about the same time Windows 8 comes out, and we all know that windows 8 utilizes the use of touch screens (tablet and desktop) more details to be announced during September BUILD conference, would you think that it's a good idea to have MS Flight supporting this new trend in computer interface by allowing control of most of the switches directly on the screen?

I think it is a great idea for MS Flight to support touch-screen technology. It would be more realistic and fluid than mouse clicks - more like flying a real airplane. Touch-screens are already used in airline training programs. I've been hoping to see this kind of development for a long time.

Touch screens can be usde today in fsx, they simulate mouse clicks. I expect windows 8 api will have a touch events as well as mouse and keyboard events but I can't think how this would be different in flight then it is today. I think the issue with VCs is the buttons become so small its nearly impossible to click let alone touch the right hot spot. I guess the solution is to use seperate panels on touch sensitive screens.

I already use FSX with a touchscreen monitor,it works very well.

I believe there are 3d screens on tablets /phones coming out what don'tneed glasses. Something like 3d cards, postcards I suppose. But imagine how one on the left could be used for the Joystick (Airbus)and one on the right for a Throttle. A really smart person might even be able to make a Joystick that attachedto the Tablet/Phone by vacuum and worked using magnets or similar. Alongwith a purely graphic tiller it would be great.

What kind of touchscreen support are you talking about in Flight that you cannot already do today with FSX? As already stated there is no need to for a special touchscreen support hardware-wise. They have worked with FSX or any other software since the day Windows started supported them (in like Windows 95?). If you would like to improve the software interface there are some really nice addons that enables you to control the entire a/c using just simple touchscreen buttons.

hehe, I just posted this in the swap meet. I'm giving away a touchscreen on the show tonight, if any of you are interested. You've still got some time to get your answers in. I believe touchscreen technology is going to be the natural progression of not only flight simulation but aviation. It is much cheaper and more efficient to write software applications than to create a hardware item like a CDU, FMC, GPS, etc.
