  1. Wow, some of these comments are actually pretty funny! Nicely done. Plus, I really like that the post ended with pictures of a good lookin woman holding big fish.
  2. FPS is NOT the way to determine FS performance PERIOD. There are numerous methods to determine performance and FPS is the least, if not most innacurate way to do so. However, you are correct that was not the question asked, and therefore I will not waste wad with slapping your "FPS staying centered around a value" nonsense down your throat. And the fact that you're option was to bring in an ENTIRE 2nd computer!! Really? Perhaps a google search of algorithm and arrogance for you sugarbritches.. Good talk though... @phmcr, If you are running FSX in full screen mode, you need to be wary about "alt+tab"bing between full screen applications like that. You can have issues such as tearing, artifacting and application hangs, becuase Alt+Tab or "Task Switching" does just that, so use it with caution. Instead consider one of the following:1) Keep using your existing format of most likely what you're doing: Using Alt + Enter to window your FS, then change applications by clicking the icon in the taskbar. Once done, select FS and Alt+Enter again to avoid corrupted textures, and screen flickering. These posts are widespread here on Avsim, and I want to keep you from running into the same problems.2) As I stated before, it may be more prudent to setup your FS to run in windowed mode, so that you remove any potential issues, and are still able to get the "full" performance that is completely achievable in windowed mode. There is NO correlation between being able to use your FULL gpu power more in full screen than windowed mode. You can get full performance in both states.Other than that, I believe you probably conducting the best practices currently, and no change is required. What you're doing IS the best.
  3. I completely agree with January on this. If you're interest is to really increase "viewable" span, I would consider a comparable priced TV that will most likely provide not only a much larger screen at the same price, but will have a similar PPI ratio as a smaller computer monitor, but will allow some distance.
  4. Are you getting better performance though?? FPS is not an accurate or even recommended way to determine FSX performance. If your performance is degraded in windowed mode, then you need to adjust your GPU settings to adjust VSR and AA to correct this issue. Just search FSX performance windowed mode.
  5. hehe, I just posted this in the swap meet. I'm giving away a touchscreen on the show tonight, if any of you are interested. You've still got some time to get your answers in. I believe touchscreen technology is going to be the natural progression of not only flight simulation but aviation. It is much cheaper and more efficient to write software applications than to create a hardware item like a CDU, FMC, GPS, etc.
  6. Have you considered going to a projection setup? The reason I mention it is that at a 27" monitor x2 pricepoint, I wonder if you might be able to grab a projector and paint a wall for about the same price. As far as a monitor, go with the ASUS because the bezel is minimum and 300 bucks each. Or you could maybe find 2 TV's with HDMI connections at that size for the same price or cheaper. Hope that helps. :)
  7. That is correct. IF you're wanting to know where the FSX.CFG calls the controls XML it's here: [CONTROLS]Controls_Default=StandardControls_Current=StandardKBDAIL=64KBDELEV=64KBDRUD=64 You don't have to replace the xml file, just simply reenter the previous lines back into your fsx.cfg. Just remember, that everytime you rebuild your fsx.cfg that you have to re-authenticate all your "trusted files" (i.e. guages, panels, etc) So it may behoove you to copy all of your trusted lines as well: [Trusted]E:\Program Files (x86)\FS Recorder for FSX\RecorderFSX.dll.rnoahcwzwrwitcuznwtihccuwrwrrnilwkutbrht=1 However, it may be better to re-authorize those instead to keep out any dead files or doubles.
