Switching in FullScreen Mode

Featured Replies

Hi, I noticed my frames per sec. in full screen mode are better than in windowed mode. But I use ASE and EFB while flying so in windowed mode I can easier switch to these programs. How can I do this in an easy way when in full screen mode? Thanks,Menno

Hi, Alt/Enter Use a second networked computer for ASE and EFB.

Are you getting better performance though?? FPS is not an accurate or even recommended way to determine FSX performance. If your performance is degraded in windowed mode, then you need to adjust your GPU settings to adjust VSR and AA to correct this issue. Just search FSX performance windowed mode.

FPS is the only way to determine FS performance, and please don't use the: "It's the smoothness that counts" statement as smoothness is related to how close your FPS stay centered around a given value, whatever that value may be. Full screen performance can be better because it fully uses the capabilities of the graphics card where windowed mode does not. Also, the OPs question is not how to improve windowed mode performance, but the best way in which to switch between modes.

Hi JIm, Thank you for your reply. I know how to switch from FullScreen to WIndowed, my question actually is about how can I easily switch from full screen to ASE or EFB. In windowed I go to the task bar and click the appropriate application, but in full screen that is not possible. Menno

If all three applicaions are open you can <ALT + TAB> between them.

John would be correct!

FPS is NOT the way to determine FS performance PERIOD. There are numerous methods to determine performance and FPS is the least, if not most innacurate way to do so. However, you are correct that was not the question asked, and therefore I will not waste wad with slapping your "FPS staying centered around a value" nonsense down your throat. And the fact that you're option was to bring in an ENTIRE 2nd computer!! Really? Perhaps a google search of algorithm and arrogance for you sugarbritches.. Good talk though... @phmcr, If you are running FSX in full screen mode, you need to be wary about "alt+tab"bing between full screen applications like that. You can have issues such as tearing, artifacting and application hangs, becuase Alt+Tab or "Task Switching" does just that, so use it with caution. Instead consider one of the following:1) Keep using your existing format of most likely what you're doing: Using Alt + Enter to window your FS, then change applications by clicking the icon in the taskbar. Once done, select FS and Alt+Enter again to avoid corrupted textures, and screen flickering. These posts are widespread here on Avsim, and I want to keep you from running into the same problems.2) As I stated before, it may be more prudent to setup your FS to run in windowed mode, so that you remove any potential issues, and are still able to get the "full" performance that is completely achievable in windowed mode. There is NO correlation between being able to use your FULL gpu power more in full screen than windowed mode. You can get full performance in both states.Other than that, I believe you probably conducting the best practices currently, and no change is required. What you're doing IS the best.

Mr Archammer, I don't like your rude, condescending and arrogant tone.Neither do I like the way you present (should I say you sully) Avsim in your "video" (...) on Youtube.Generally I rarely turn the other cheek so without your permission I've deleted the link to it in your signature. It's because of guys like you that lot of folks are quiting this hobbyNo, I don't like you Mr Archammer and that's why I don't wish to seeing you here anymore. And no, I won't give you a right of reply.10 posts is a perfect number to say goodbye.

Thanks David, I had blown this guy off days ago.

Quoted for truth You could use a little app could "FS-SIMtimizer" which I use for a 2 moniter set up. It allows me to have full screen FSX on one and other apps on the other, but it would still give a single monitor set up the ability to use full screen and have access to the other apps by pressing the Windows key. Worth a look anyway. Sawyer http://www.friendlyflusi.at/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=13492

I second the thanks to David for moderating the tone that was jumping into this thread. We should be able to debate points in a civil, respectful manner. For the few who have difficulty doing this, it's nice to know someone in authority is watching and responding without coming across in an over zealous, traffic cop manner.

Our 'Uncle Jim' been around for over 19,000 helpful posts and deserves a great deal more respect than this yahoo has afforded him.Good riddance, and Well Done, David. Thank you.

Thanks pj!! And Andre it's true, becuase this is the same person that has a YouTube page with these FS shows, and one of them claimed that he had inside information from MS that Flight was going to be released in Feb. of 2012.
