Newbie Ram Question

Featured Replies

Actually the 570 has 1.2GB of VRAM, not 1GB Dan. Not a big difference anyway. The thing is that the AA modes that will use more than 1GB at 1920x1080 are too demanding FPS wise. Even if you had a 580 with plenty of VRAM, your FPS in clouds would be in the teens and stuttering badly. It's not only about VRAM, current cards don't have the power to handle those modes

Are you suggesting that it is better to leave AA off. I only have a small monitor (upgrading very soon) so it is very noticeable without it.

He is saying AA levels that require more than 1GB of Vram are too high for the GPU to run without issues.

they say that with high resolutions you can escape without AA.

Not really. If you turn AA off with a 1920x1080 monitor you're going to be flying a brick. Just less of a brick than at lower res. For the best picture quality, you need AA.

I use 1080p and you can notice the jaggers on close things but scenery is fine, IMO. A little bt of AA is nice. I run it an 32x for Crysis 2 I think.

Don't you get a lot of AG shimmering? You have a nice GPU, try 2xSGSS, or even 4xSGSS with 8xS man This is what I run. I don't know why but setting AF to app controled and then selecting "Anisotropic" in the FSX settings gives a per boost that helps with 4xSGSS (which looks gorgeous) inspector.png

Will do then. Time to update drivers. Hey, speaking of gleaming textures and good looks, do you know an alternative to ENB. Makes my PC crash.

No I don't, sorry. I also got rid of it for the same reason. Also because the performance hit is big at high AA levels with ENB enabled.

I had it tweaked and it was no different on frames.

Yeah, but try those settings I posted with ENB on. With "regular" IQ settings the perf hit with ENB was very small here too, but with 4xSGSS... on the other hand I never bothered to tweak it after the crashes and black screens

What is ENB? What does it actually do? I've heard lots of people mention it but I've never read up on it.

ENB is a high dynamic lighting effect. It adds light bloom and lens flare like effects to FSX without the FPS impact. Though, i doesn't really work with some external FPS limiters and causes crashes on some systems like mine.

Thanks. I don't use a FPS limiter as it had no effect on my system. Where can I find it?

It's a mod that adds light bloom and other effects, but is not as hard on frames as the built in FSX light bloom
