Newbie Ram Question

Actually the 570 has 1.2GB of VRAM, not 1GB Dan. Not a big difference anyway. The thing is that the AA modes that will use more than 1GB at 1920x1080 are too demanding FPS wise. Even if you had a 580 with plenty of VRAM, your FPS in clouds would be in the teens and stuttering badly. It's not only about VRAM, current cards don't have the power to handle those modes
Sorry, folks but you're talking to a novice here. My AA settings were set through Inspector according to the recommended settings in the opening PMDG General forum thread by Ryan Maziarz. They're at 8 x S and I assume I'll move them to 8 x SQ with the new card. But let me be clear, because I think I missed it. Is the recommendation to go with the 1.2 GB 570, or not? Thanks. Dan

I would get one over a 2GB GTX 560 if you have got the 1 screen. More powerful GPU core.

That's correct. 2 monitors. One at 1920 x 1080 and the other (older) at 1680 x 1050. Thanks. Dan

Between the 2GB 560 and the 1.2GB 570, I would go with the 1.2GB 570 for that resolution

Oh sorry, just came back to me that I was speaking to the same person. In that case the more VRAM would probably work better but I don't use multi monitor so I am not really genius in this area. If you can really stretch the budget, your could go for a 2.5GB EVGA GTX 570 but its probably too much.

really, you would know better but I thought extra VRam was more important for multi monitor.

But FSX will still run at 1920x10802D panels and the Windows desktop don't use much VRAM, almost nothing. Try opening all the 2D panels in your favourite A/C's VC. VRAM remains the sameRight now in Firefox I see 41MB of VRAM usage

Yeah, I suppose so. Its if you are using Matrox i guess that you need the VRam. In windows i see the VRam at 30mb in Windows.
