Hi all,I am about to upgrade my system,I currently have a AMD6400+ BE 4GB of pc6400 and a 9800GTX+2x WD Sata drives 7200500w power supply.I am just about to buy: i5 2500K ,MSI p67 GD53 , Corsair Vengeance Blue 4GB (2x2GB) + cooler master hyper 212 plus. For now I will have to keep my 9800GTX + (will this hold me back in FSX??)How hard will it be for me to get to 4.5/5.0 GHz but OC??Mark

It may bottle neck the CPU.

Unless you're stubbornly waiting for Kepler like I am, I would pick up a GTX 560 if at all possible. Getting 4.5GHz is about as easy as increasing the multiplier in the BIOS.

My 9800GTX+ 512 is about 2/3 years old so how can the i5 2500K be the bottle neck?

He means the 9800GTX+ will bottleneck the CPU, not the other way around. I'm sure you will get a nice perf boost even if you keep your 9800GTX+. Then later when you can, get a better GPU and crank up your IQ settings :)

Ya I meant the 9800GTX may bottleneck the CPU, the 9800GTX is powerful no doubt.

Almost every chip will be able to reach 4.5 on reasonable voltage. Very, very, very few will reach 5GHz or more without crazy vcore.

i am sure at times we have all be chaseing more fps/ghz, Would we really see the difference between 4.5 & 5.0Ghz? I all trying my very best to get my wife to let me buy a 560Ti or maybe even a 570GTX. ( She still need some persuading/ dinner cooked for her. ) Mark

There is a fairly substantial difference actually, yes. That's not to say 4.5 won't run FSX very, very well, because it will. The extra 500MHz only really comes up trumps in those few extreme situations where the sim is really struggling (think PMDG into FSDT, with a ton of road/boat traffic, and on vatsim).

Just my laptop having to display that thought has got the CPU fan on full!
