August 16, 201114 yr I bought FSX today and installed it. When I tried to run the application, it told me that the Sim couldn't run with an incorrect scenery.cfg file. I looked in my FSX folder and there was a scenery.cfg file, so I'm not sure what is wrong. Thanks!

August 16, 201114 yr Author Well, when I installed the Acceleration pack that went away. Now there's another error. It says... "Unable to write cache fileC:/ProgramDate/Microsoft/FSX/SceneryIndexes/FileliYou must log on as a user with write permission.Destination drive may be full or set to read-only, or a filewith the same name may already exist. Click abortto exit."
August 16, 201114 yr Are you logged on as administrator? If you are, go to control panel. Search UAC. Click the link that says user account control. Drop the slider to the bottom. Click okay and reboot. August 16, 201114 yr Commercial Member Best place to install FSX is anywhere BUT the "Program Files" folder. This causes various access issues, such as this one.
August 16, 201114 yr Uninstall and re-install as Mir and now Luke has posted. You will save a lot of headaches later on.
August 16, 201114 yr He didn't say anywhere in these posts that he has installed FSX to the "C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X". He said basically, that FSX doesn't have permission to write to the "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\SceneryIndexes\" files - which is probably, as NGX said - fixable by killing UAC. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
August 17, 201114 yr Author I received yet another error. I'm just going to uninstall it and re-install in a different location. Then, I'll see what happens. Thanks for all jumping in on this. I learned a few valuable things. Coming from X-Plane, FSX is a whole different animal to get used to! I'll let you all know on the progress.
